Review of Gerber 22-41616 Ripstop II 7-2/5-Inch Length Stainless Steel Serrated Edge Knife

This knife has an overall great style...but the finish on the circular hinge is less than quality looking. Gerber used to make all top-quality knives, but their quality appears to be slipping.

Review of Gerber 22-41527 Vallotton Serrated Edge Pocket Knife

Not a horrible deal for the discounted price but in a sign that manufacturers may be rushing these to production before states start to close the loopholes allowing them, there are some fit and finish issues (not a knife expert so don't know the technical terms):

The mechanism, which is located at the join of handle and blade, has stops in it that grind a bit on opening and closing which makes me think that it might be a durability issue. It doesn't seem to slow the opening speed noticeably but it's odd.

Related to the above mentioned mechanism location, the blade has some noticeable lateral play when open. Not something you would see with a conventional folder of this price.

The safety lock is alternately sticky and loose leading to some interferance with opening and closing. Additionally, to unlock the blade for closing you push the lock forward (toward the blade) raising the potential for an accidental closure if really bearing down on a project.

When locked closed the blade still has enough play to extend out about 3/16 of an inch beyond the handle making it a potential pocket cutter.

On the plus sides it is attractive and the blade is quite sharp.

So sort of okay for the price but not as tight as it should be and obviously a "bandwagon" release that is meant to capitalize on the trend. I'm looking for a 2.5" assisted that I can give as a gift and this isn't it. I have a 3.5" SOG that is double the price but is also rock solid (SOG mechanism is a bit slower but strikes me as being less prone to wear as it is piston-based) and doesn't have any of the cons listed above. Have a Camillus coming so I'll be interested to compare.

Review of Winchester 22-01788 2.5-Inch Blade Pakka Wood Double Bolster Fine Edge Lock-Back Knife

The description originally said this was a two blade knife. It's not. There's a pouch in the pictures. You won't get one with the knife.

It's a small, but nicely finished pocket knife. It doesn't say made in China on the blade, but it probably is.

I got it for $10 in a Gold Box deal, but wouldn't pay more.

An okay purchase, but nothing special.

Review of Winchester 22-49447 Skinner Knife, Black w/FineEdge & Sheath

This is a really nice knife. It feels great in the hand. Maybe a bit small if you have big hands. It is made of good quality steel and the full tang construction makes it super strong. In fact, I prefer full tang knives, as I have had some cheap knives in the past and after using them for a while, I have been left holding the handle with the blade lying on the ground. Another great thing about full tang knives is that if the handle scales ever break or come off, they can be replaced and the knife is as good as new. This is definately a knife that will last a lifetime. You won't go wrong with this one.

Review of Gerber® Radius Multi-Plier®

I am a big fan of the idea here.A multi-tool with tools that open out of the side of the handle- what a great concept.I used the Shrade tool when it was a real tool for many years, and loved it except for the lock which kept breaking.

I waited seeral months for a local store to have one in stock so I could check it out. Finally I couldn't wait so I ordered one from Allsparestools through Amazon.

What I first noticed was the weight. This is a heavy tool.It is also very large. It has very substantial locks. It would probably be very difficult to break.

It also has only 4 tools (yes a couple have another function but there are only 4):
1) a very rugged, wide, short blade
2) a phillips screwdriver
3) a straight blade screwdriver
4) a pair of scissors- Fiskars no less

Each of these blades was supposed to open with a thumb stud, but it needed sronger thumbs than mine.

What finally decided my to send it back after only a couple of minutes inspection was the pliers. With this big heavy tool with only 4 small stiff tools one gets a pair of pliers that take 2 hands to open and open to less width than the much smaller Leatherman Blast that I currently carry.

I hope Gerber or Leatherman tries again with the tool from the side concept.I am still searching for a replacement (or repair) for my Shrade.

Review of Gerber 45780 Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Serrated Double Edge Pocket Knife

I've owned this knife for some time now for collectible purposes and every once in a while I'll take it out of the sheath and open some mail with it or something, (after all, you have to at least TRY it out.)

The blade is very smooth opening and SOLID when locked.Even good knives sometimes have a little bit of blade wiggle if you push on it, but not this one.The grip could be better, if your life depended on a solid grip on this thing - if it's wet, you're in trouble. The grip is strong, you can tell when you hold it, but it feels cheap for some reason. The lock is unquestionable, sometimes you get locks of this style that don't fully `click over' or however you want to say it, but this one is LOCKED.When you use it, you can tell the manufacturing tolerances were very precise.Very strong rigid knife.

Would I recommend this knife?Absolutely!Would I pay anything more then maybe $60 or $70 for it?Probably not.You could get a good made in the USA knife that a little better for about the same price, maybe a Benchmade or Spyderco.

Review of Gerber 22-80122 Cornea HI Flashlight

This flashlight is amazing. I bought two last weekend for a retreat in the mountains for my brother and I. My brother has RP(retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease) and cannot see anything in the dark or twilight. Especially in the mountains I would have to guide him putting my arm around him with a normal flashlight. This flashlight was like a mini spotlight. It lit up the ground completely. Other people were so thankful I was walking with them and others asked me not to cause they couldn't see their own light from their flashlights! This was worth every dollar, and had I tried it out before buying it, I would have paid so much more. Thank you for making such a high quality small flashlight Gerber, and thank you for giving my brother his independence back.

Review of Gerber 22-80112 Carnivore Blood Tracking Light, Mossy Oak Camo

A one star review from me is a warning to walk away.

I tried one of these at a local gun show to see how "TRAX" really works (or doesn't).I had a knife with me and donated a sample of blood drops on the ground to simulate a fresh kill from my finger. All TRAX really did was give me a paper cut feeling in the finger.

Basically the trax mode uses 4 red leds and 4 blue leds to supposedly help you find blood. If you remember back 20 years at the butcher counter the fresh meat was always lit up with purpleish fluorescent tubes to make the meat look fresher and brighter than the store's white light would.TRAX is a variation on that concept except you are supposed to use it to spot blood trails on foilage (green or tan), or dirt and it just simply doesn't work.

The red blood reflects the red led light, but so does everything else to a lesser degree. In theory the blue part would be absorbed by blood and thus make the blood brighter but it doesn't.The butcher shop tubes had special phosphors to make fresh cuts of meat look bright red in the case - this doesn't have that effect. Its white light actually works better for finding blood.

The theory does not work - instead just get a powerful white light for tracking blood.Any good bright xenon light will show red blood plain as day.Choose your light source to get a good amount of red spectrum like a normal light bulb.Cold lights like HIDs do not have much red emission to begin with and will hide blood.Any xenon light will work better than the LED gimmic.

Another alternative is to get a dog that smells a blood sample before being fed every day for training.Blood does smell (ironically like iron but it's the hemoglobin you are smelling).Soon your dog will associate the odor of fresh blood with getting fed.Next make it a walking game with a few drops ofbloodto the hidden food - the dog will follow the scent to the hidden dish of dog food.Dogs' brains are easily programmed to seek out a fresh kill for a food source as a survival technique so this only takes a few weeks to teach them blood=food nearby. Make sure that no blood is in the food as the object is to get the dog to follow a trail of blood to find their normal food.Bloodhounds, Shepherds, Labs, are all good mixes for this work.Blood's odor is very distinct so almost any dog will work.If you don't want to become anemic check outthe local blood bank for expired donations which must be discarded - if you explain that it is being used to train a "search" dog they'll probably give you a unit if you sign a waiver and give ID.

Take your dog with you hunting and check out the garmin astro - let your dog do the work. It's faster, easier, and more accurate than colored leds. GARMIN 010-00596-01 Astro Bundle 220 Dog Tracking GPS

Review of Gerber 22-41513 Freehand Multi Plier

The first thing that shocked me when I started handling this item new out of the box is the pits and scratches in the larger tools (knife, saw, ruler). They looked used, even though I bought this brand new.I then looked down at my hands and saw that they were covered in the black finish - it was like I had been reading a newspaper. The finish comes right off on your fingers.Lastly, the scissors do not fold smoothly into place inside of the handle. When fully closed, the tip of the blade still extends outside, giving a sharp edge to either cut yourself on or to snag on things coming out of your pocket or sheath.I've never returned something to amazon before...looks like there's a first time for everything. Here I thought Gerber meant quality, not trash.

Review of Gerber Superknife 22-00532 SK Edge Aluminum Folding Utility Knife, Silver

I bought this knife for my husband who has carried the original Superknife since they first came out. He loves it!! The quick change blade is awesome! Review of Gerber 06977 Single-Serration Silver Trident Tactical Knife

The Gerber Silver Trident is the perfect knife for the collector and the fighter. The fact that is has a double-edged blade with the looks of a regular spear point makes it particularly attractive for the owner - it is an understatement of sorts. The finish is superb. Knowing this knife is made in the USA and NOT in China restores trust in the quality of this product. The feel of the handle is such that you don't want to put it away again... it feels real good (to the enthusiast that is :-). Weight, balance and texture are all perfect. The sheath seems to be specifically designed for this knife (not your run-of-the-mill one shape fits all type). The price reflects the quality and design... I guess. I am happy!

Review of Gerber 45860 Air Ranger Serrated Edge Knife

I got my first Gerber Harsey Air Ranger knife about 10 years ago. I returned another Gerber knife I owned to their repair center for repairs (Gerber guarantees all their knives FOR LIFE !!) and they couldn't fix it because it was a discontinued model--so they offered to give me a knife from their current catalog (of equal value) to replace mine. After looking through their catalog, I spotted the Harsey Air Ranger (all metal, with checkered aluminum grips) and I chose it. When it arrived, I didn't know if I liked it or not.It didn't look like any of my other Gerbers, and it was WAY LIGHTER! Gerbers have a nice heft to them, and this one didn't, but I put it in my pocket and hardly noticed it was there. Hmmm, ligher might be better for a pocket knife anyway I thought. The aluminum grips were very light, strong, and checkered like a gunstock. Even when wet, they allow for a good grip. I never baby a knife, (even if it's an expensive one) as I use my knives every day, from cutting cardboard boxes, rope, wires and wood. A knife must earn its keep--if its going to be in MY pocket. My original Air Ranger is still in my pocket, still working every day--just like me.When I've finally sharpened it down to a nub, I'll start using my new one form Amazon--though that probably won't be for a least another 10 years or so. If you're a working man like me, you can't go wrong with a Gerber Air Ranger which was designed by a world class custom knife maker (Bill Harsey).

Review of Gerber 22-01528 Vallotton Fine Edge Pocket Knife

I carry a knife as a tool for work and recreation, not as a weapon.Regardless of what some couch-cowboy tells you on YouTube or whatever you see in the movies, rarely does anyone ever win a knife fight.
Anyway, on with the review.

Pros:
Lightweight
Sturdy, blade has no wiggle
Features a safety
Easy one hand deployment
Size makes it comfortable in the pocket and nonthreatening to law enforcement
Low price

Cons:
Blade sharpness out of the box was mediocre at best (a run on the sharpening stone solved that)
Closing the blade felt grainy, like there was sand in the mechanism (a little gun oil fixed it right up)
The safety button is loose, almost free floating; I wish it would click into place.
The material the handle is made of though quite strong and durable, looks cheap

Review of Gerber 22-80027 Infinity Ultra-M Flashlight, Black Body, White LED

Gerber's Infinity task lights are not the brightest single LED flashlights because they don't have a reflector. With that out of the way consider this: It's virtaully waterproof, has a bulb life of 100,000 hours, can burn for over 40 hours (or more) and accepts cheap, readily available AA batteries. This model is even more heavy-duty than the Gerber 22-80010 Infinity Ultra LED Task Light, Green. The main improvements are that the recessed LED is less likely to break, the circuit board is waterproof and double gaskets are used.

I ALWAYS have an Infinity Task Light in my possession.Personally, I use Energizer Ultimate L91BP-4 Lithium AA Battery 4 Pack batteries because they last way longer than alkaline batteries.I also put some silicone grease on the gaskets.

Yes, the anodized coating wears away in time -- especially under the clip (which I don't use). This is a minor point and has happened to the other flashlight I ALWAYS carry in my bag: the Surefire E1E-BK Executive Elite Flashlight - Black.Between these two I have a really bright halogen light and a long lasting LED light with a combined weight of only a few ounces.I do carry a spare lithium AA and a CR123 battery just in case.If you've ever been in NYC in a blackout you'd understand my reasoning.

Review of Gerber 22-47168 Trendy Folding Clip Knife with Fine Edge and Pear Wood Onlay

The Gerber Trendy is a diminutive knife that weighs just 1.2 ounces and measures 3 inches closed and 4-1/2 inches when open. While it is small, this is a knife with a lot of utility in a very attractive package.

The Trendy has a 1-1/2 inch blade with a fine edge that is quite sharp and holds an edge nicely. There's a clip that's billed as a money clip, but it also allows the knife to be clipped inside a wallet or pocket. The liner lock is an integral part of the handle that is secure at all times while keeping the blade open. The pear wood "handle" is just an attractive accent that serves as a blade edge guard when the knife is folded.

The Gerber Trendy is a pocket knife in the truest sense. There are almost no places to collect dirt or lint that would inhibit the smooth function of this knife, but due to its size and design it does require two hands to open and close.

Another quality Gerber product that is a joy to own. Have fun; stay safe!

Review of Gerber 22-45640 / 22-999628 River Shorty Watersport, Blunt Tip Knife with Sheath

The sheath is 5 stars and it's probably the perfect knife for personal watercrafts. It just bothers me that there is not a point at the end and a sharp bade all around (this must somehow relate to my Y chromosome). At the same time, I know that this is meant to protect me from myself while I am kayaking with wet cold hands and miles away from a hospital.

The knife has no sharp area on the top side, but does have a ridge area for your thumb to rest and get friction while cutting. The blunt tip is about like a dull screw driver tip and the 1st inch of the blade side nearest the tip is also tapered but blunt.

What this knife speacializes in is the serated edge that will easily cut the ties that bind you. I am glad to have it in case of accident where I need to get free from ropes or fishing line while in the water. I use a pair of nail clippers for usual fishing needs.

This knife and sheath solidly clip together without a sheath snap and that sheath is built so that it will not come loose of my PFD strap.

Review of Gerber 22-41415 Gator II Gut Hook, Fine Edge Knife

I wanted a utility knife for skinning and quartering game. The knife has a decent edge and the edge holds up okay. The zipper is handy for iviscerating w/o puncturing. The knife is a little wide for close in work but is well suited as a general purpose skinner.Probably wouldn't want to cape with as it doesn't get into tight spaces well. The texturized handle gives a good grip but it's a bear to get the fat and blood out of all the crevices when you are cleaning.

Metal box had a tiny dent in the cover, no big deal.I wished I had bought a set for myself.

Review of Gerber 22-47170 Freeman Folder Fine Edge Knife with Drop Point

This knife just feels awesome in your hand.It is very sturdy and the blade is as wide as a fixed blade.Everything about the knife great quality. The handle is very thick and provides an excellent grip.

However, it is very heavy and large in your pocket.Keeping it in the provided belt holster camping is definitely the way to go.

Review of Gerber 30-000441 Octane Multi Plier, Red

Just received Octane a few hours ago. Unfortunately, first impressions are pretty dire.

It is a good looking tool. It could be used, unchanged, as a prop in some science fiction survival movie. Interesting curves, high tech looking, and space age looking vents and finish. The blade is large and functional. There's a proper Phillips driver, a good flathead driver, and the locking system is sturdy that the tools don't rattle.

Alas, there are many downsides. It is advertised as a one-hand opening tools. It can be done, it certainly isn't easy. Unlike other multi-tools, these pliers slide out from the handles. To open, depress both buttons on the handles on the tool and slide the plier jaws forward. Try doing that with one hand. Second biggest problem is that you need to open the pliers to get to the tools in the handle (except for the blade). Even with the pliers open, it's not exactly easy to do. Which brings us to the blade. As is apparent from the pictures, the blade covers seem something of afterthought, almost like a sidecar.

Review of Gerber 30-000176 Epic Knife, Serrated Edge

As with other Gerber knives, the Gerber 30-000176 Epic Knife, Serrated Edge arrives very sharp and has an easy edge to maintain. The weighting is handle biased and when held there is a thumb grip just in front of the handle which is well placed. This knife does not fall into the category of a large fixed blade, rather it is the size of a non-folding pocket knife (see photo comparison with the Gerber 22-01589 Big Rock Camp Knife). The sheath allows for mounting on either side (lefties or righties) and smartly secures the blade within.

One weak point is the "sheath" due to the difficulty of pushing the blade into it without cutting blade-side of the sheath.I would guess that after 6 months to a year of use the blade-side of the sheath will be weakened because the blade nicks it as it is pushed in.This is the reason it is 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall, it is a good introductory knife for those who wish to have a small fixed blade, however do not be fooled as to its size. The Big Rock Camp Knife is a good alternative for those who wish for a larger cutting area.

Review of Gerber 45785 Applegate-Fairbairn Covert Pocket Knife, Double Edge 154CM, Serrated

When it comes to tools a man should have in his pocket, Gerber is where it is at.I currently have The Gerber Covert Folder (this knife), The Gerber Combat Folder (old style not having the safety lockout) and several Gerber Multi-Tools (currently have one on my belt and one attached to the front of my Body Armor; I also used to have The Mini Covert Folder (but someone helped themselves to it a few years back).

These knives are substantial, but not overly heavy. The grips are pretty nice, not likely to slip in your hand.I like them so much that when I saw the new ones with the green handles in another catalog, I went looking to see if I could get a better deal (stopped to fill out this review when I saw nobody else had, these are fine knives).

When they come out of the package they are a little stiff and slow for opening, but if they weren't then they would probably fall apart in a year.Speaking of years, here is how long I have had some of these knives:
Gerber Covert Folder:1 year
Gerber Combat Folder:6 years
Gerber Multi-Tool: 6 years for my oldest one, nothing wrong with it, keep getting more as Employer issues them.

If you work in a manly man's job, or are an outdoors kind of guy on your time off, then you probably already have a pocket full of knives; as those wear out, I suggest replacing them with these Gerbers, starting with a Multi-Tool on your belt an one or two appropriate sized folders in your pockets.

It is a constant, the Afghans I work with are always trying to borrow my knives, they recognize the difference in what I have and what they can purchase locally.

Review of Gerber 22-41033 Stockman One Blade Fine Edge Pocket Knife

This knife comes in a sealed plastic package used for merchandise in hanging displays. The type you have to cut open to get the product out.No box.Description on the package says 2.5 in blade, 1.6 ounces, filigreed bolsters, made in china.Because the onlays are stag they can vary in thickness.I saw a thin version of this knife and a too thick version. The quality of the workmanship looks good.No defects found.Operates smoothly. The blade only says GERBER.No indication of the quality of the steel.Does not say stainless so probably isn't.It is an OK knife but nothing special. It will work fine for carrying in my pocket.I won't be upset if I lost it.I won't buy another one.I already have plenty of everyday pocket knives.I bought it on sale under $11 at Amazon, for less than half what some other vendors are selling it.At that sale price I give it three stars for relative value since it is stag. It's worth the sale price, but I'm disappointed at what Gerber has become. At full price I would be very disappointed. It's not a Case. It's not a knife I would show off because of the style or brand. It's more like "Look at this new stag handle knife, I got it cheap".

Review of Gerber 22-48464 Freeman Hunter Fixed Blade, Fine Edge Knife

Here we go again...I experimented with Gerber knives this year after using Buck knives for 40 years. I have a love for different knife blades and handles. The Freeman handle was attractive to me (as was the Profile-Fixed Blade). I am quite pleased with this knife. If you read this, please know that my hands are medium, not large, so the handle fits my hand well. If your hands are large, you may not like the feel of this handle. The blade is sharp but probably not as sharp as some reviewers would like. The sheath is a ballistic nylon, not leather. My sheath was in fine working order upon receipt. Please understand, this knife, is what it is....an attractive, inexpensive fixed blade knife for use in the field or in and around the home. If you are looking for anything more, then don't buy it. Even though I love my Buck Vanguard, the Freeman has a place on my belt.

I really like the knife- nice, large comfortable handle gives a sure grip, and the blade is solid.I only carry it when doing various outdoor activities as its a bit large to carry around without a specific reason.I found it was a bit tight in belt pouch that came with it, but it stretched out.It sharpened easily on my Spyderco Sharpmaker. Its a bargain at the price.

Review of Gerber 22-01506 Clutch Mini Pliers Keychain Tool - Special Ops Gray-Box

I purchased this right before Christmas for a little something for myself. I work in retail, but am amazed at how often having a screw driver or set of pliers at hand would come in handy. I wanted something that was small enough to fit in my pocket so I could carry it with me daily, but could still be used for practical applications.
This thing has come in handy so often. Whether it is loosening/tigtening a Phillips head screw, opening a plastic package, filing my nails, or removing staples from ridiculously thick packs of paper, this has served me well all around.

The only down side to this is the extras are really difficult to open at first. If I were smart I would put a dab of WD40 on it. Also, the finish on it has started to flake off where it rubs against keys and what not.

I do wish that they would include the split ring with it or provide a larger eye so that I could fit it on my key ring much easier.
If you need something like you work in construction or something, then you probably need something heavier. But for something that you can keep with you to use daily, I recommend this.

Review of Gerber 22-41405 Kiowa Tanto Knife, Black, Serrated Edge

It's an excellent mid-sized folding knife. I'm an EMT and I like being prepared. This knife has held up great, it's lightweight, holds its sharpness well and it's comfortable. The only downside is that the paint on the handle comes off quickly revealing the silver finish underneath. I thought it was anodized like the blade but I guess not.

Review of Gerber 22-41463 LMF II Infantry , Coyote Brown

As a Forest Officer, I work and play in the wilds of Alberta, and have spent the majority of my life in an outdoor environment.I purchased this knife as a survival tool to attach to a MOLLE vest style survival kit.

The knife is well designed as a general purpose tool, and will function acceptably in various ways. This does not mean that the knife is designed to function superbly as a self defence weapon, a deer skinner, a hatchet or a hammer.Being designed to be multipurpose and to be abused, the knife is heavy and strong and stands up well to general purpose usage in the bush.

Specifically:
I have found the handle a bit large for my small hands (size 7) but not uncomfortably so.The blade length, depth and width are good. The blade shape is good and the drop point design protects the blade point. The serrations are better for cutting sinew than wood. The knife can chop wood, but I recommend a saw if you want to effectively cut wood. The blade will function as a skinner, but only acceptably, not perfectly. The knife is reasonably balanced and will not tire out your wrists through usage, though your hands will tire with continued use if you have small hands and must grip that much tighter to control the knife.I have not used the knife as a spear, though the design allows for that, as I am greatly concerned about losing the knife! If colour is a concern to you, there are 3 colours, grey-green (foliage green to the fine folks in the US Army), coyote brown (an excellent shade for autumn hunting) and black (good general purpose colour).I own the green and black colour variants.

As part of my job, I drive, fly in helicopters and spent hours and days many miles from assistance.Hunting and hiking take me many miles afield as well. This knife works well for me under these circumstances and will do the same for you.

Review of MULTI-TOOL, ARTIFACT, BOX

This is a great key chain tool, that is more solid and weighty than it appears in the photos here. The blade attachment is secure but easy to work with, and it has two locking positions (90 degree and straight open). On mine the straight open and locked position leaves the blade aligned with the curve of the tool, not straight out as pictured.

They pry-claw end is very thick and curved like a wrecking bar.The bottle opener part is tough and can be used to pry open things not just bottles, though I would caution with the latter you need to pay attention to catch the bottle cap lip.

Replacement blades are easy to find, but don't try other shapes of hobby blade or it won't close all the way. These blades tend to rust with pocket moisture and of course are meant for small work like paper, foam, or sharpening pencils; it's not a substitute for a real box-cutter in other words. You may want to stock up on blades as they go dull or break easily.

The Phillips screwdriver head is less defined than one would like, so it operates a small subset of screws reliably, others are hit and miss.

Finish wore off a bit after a year in a pocket with keys but I sort of like that.

Four Stars, not five for the Phillips and not quite ideal bottle opener. But when I lose this, I am going to get another one for sure.

Review of Gerber 22-80047 TriTac Tactical Flashlight with White LED, Black Body

As with most Gerber-made products you can simply feel the quality built in to everything that bares their name. This light is no exception. Very bright white light from a sleek, stylish design. However, I have just one complaint. The light has no type of gripping system. As narrow as the body is there needs to be some sort of grips included, instead they have left off the grips completely and the light can easily slide from your hand. I concentrated more on not dropping it than I did actually testing it out for the first time. I love the light it produces, I love the Gerber name, I just wish that they had added grips so that you can hold on to it better. If not for this the light would have received 5 stars.

Review of Gerber 22-41551 PR 3.0 Knife, Serrated Edge

I bought the Gerber PR 3.0 while looking for a replacement for my lost Gerber EZ Out that I carried for about 15 years. While not quite what I was looking for (I also bought Gerber 22-07162 Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Fine Edge Knife), this one was so nice that it ended up in my cart. Amazon carries it for somewhat less than I paid for it in a big box store, but it was still worth it. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Looks great, the two-tone rubberized grip is very cool
+ Blade is VERY sharp and looks to be high quality steel
+ Comfortable grip provides safer handling of open knife
+ Sturdy pocket clip
+ Locking blade is very secure

Cons:
- Very hard to open one handed
- Sharp edge on bottom of thumb nub\stud catches on clothing, this is the only surprising thing about this knife

Overall this is a very good looking knife with good ergonomics and a great blade, it is only hampered by the two minor issues listed above.

Recommended!

Review of Gerber 22-48398 E-Z Skinner

I killed my first deer today!I have had this knife for 2 or so years and never used it for skinning or gutting anything until today.I was quite impressed with how easy it made gutting the deer, especially for a total newbie, and the skinning aspect was great as well. The only con I can think of was that partway through skinning the deer I had to re-hone the blade as it was getting pretty dull. But for <$15 this was a great knife to have on hand and I would recommend it to anybody looking for something of this genre.
