Review of Gerber 07510G MP600 Bluntnose Multi-Plier with Carbide Inserts

I got this because I got a good deal on it.And while I will say that it doesn't seem as refined(chunky) as a leatherman in some ways I think it is every bit as useful and durable. i love the one hand operation to get to the pliers.Awesome product!Very very happy with it.

Review of Winchester 22-01347 Small Wood Handle Tool

I got this tool for free with another (Gerber) multi-tool. I would not buy this tool for much money.

If you want a folding pair of small needle-nose pliers, this is a pretty good choice. The motion is smooth, the machining is fairly precise, and the spring-loaded action is really handy. The pliers are indeed small; they are suitable for items no more than 1/4 inch (8mm) wide. The handles are an adequate 2.5 inches long, and while they are not quite level with one another, it's no big deal. Pliers feel quite strong, with minimal flexing.

The large straight screwdriver is poorly made, with a rounded-off instead of perfectly straight shape. The can and bottle openers are abnormally shallow. The serrated blade is very thick but not very sharp. The straight blade is tiny and not sharp. The cross-head screwdriver is tiny, like a sub-#1 Philips but more vaguely shaped. The nail file looks and feels like a student project. In short, none of the fold-out tools is of a quality to match the pliers and handles -- they say "made by the lowest bidder in China".

The wood accents on the handles are attractive and feel good, but they do make the handles surpringly thick -- about 18mm at the thickest point.

For the pliers and appearance, I would give 4 stars. For the other built-in tools, I would give 1 star (a failing grade).

Review of Gerber 06069 Folding Gator Knife - Clip Point, Fine - Box

Gerber (A Fiskars Company) put out some of the best knives for the money in the market.Fiskars is my favorite scissors company and everything I've used of their stuff is top notch - so this is a good combo.

I have this knife in the partially serrated version. It is 8.75" long when open, 5" when closed, and the blade is 3.75".If you have the serrated model, the first 1.5" is serrated. The remaining smooth blade hones nicely and stays sharp.Gerber 650 &Portland, OR U.S.A are printed on either side of the blade.

The grip is exceptional. The Kraton handle is very tough and offers superior traction and grip with it's rubbery feeling alligator finish. It has a notch for the index finger and the butt curves down to fit your other fingers very comfortably. It feels like a part of your hand when you hold it and is balanced nicely for a folder. It simply stays in your hand when you want it there.

The lock is solid with a lever-lock cog/pin system in the backside. The cordura/nylon belt sheath has a velcro closure that has some adjustability to it.Mine is several years old now and I still love this knife. For this price, it's an amazing buy. There are knives that cost 3 or 4 times as much that don't feel nearly as good. The steel could be a little harder, but it holds its edge admirably.

They came out with this over a decade ago and you can still find it and it's popular.I think that says a lot.I haven't used the ones with the hook point (sinew cutter for hunting, cutting rope etc.) but they seem virtually identical.

The only thing this knife is missing is an ambidextrous notch for quick opening.I give it 4.5 stars, rounding up for price/performance ratio and fantastic quality and grip.

Gerber's History of Ingenuity
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand -- one that commands respect among knife-lovers and knife-makers alike. And now that same high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and backpack hydration.

Review of Gerber 31-000083 Gator Brush Trimmer

My husband had an older Fiskars brush axe that my son and I were using extensively to clear trails. In order to regain ownership of his machete he bought us each a Gerber brush axe because of the nice sheath that came with them for the same price as the Fiskars with the plastic sheath. After no more that half a dozen uses the handle cracked in the middle.Apparently the blade doesn't go very far into the plastic handle which seems a serious design flaw for a tool that is used for heavy whacking.Apparently the new Fiskars are plagued with the same problem.I would think Fiskar/Gerber would find this a liability. The response from customer service was rather automated...."Return it by insured mail and we will decide if it will be replaced or repaired."...even though I enclosed detailed photos of the broken knife handle. With shipping costs and the weight of this product it makes little sense to send them a broken knife that I know cannot be repaired.

Review of Gerber 22-01400 LMF II Survival Knife - Coyote Brown

I own this item and it is extremely sturdy and perfect for survival tasks. The blade is thick and the window breaker at the end of the handle is useful in emergencies. I CANNOT recommend this seller however, "Buy From The Best Inc." The customer service of this seller was a joke - after not shipping my item even after a week, they gave me attitude, redtape, and actually wanted me to contact amazon for them to work out their problem. When I told them it is THEIR repsonsibility to process the order with amazon they gave me more BS. When I simply told them they had 10 days to ship me the item I paid for, they STILL couldn't manage to do it! Ha! What kind of company takes 17 days to ship something within the US? I cancelled my order, wisely. Save yourself the headache, especially with an expensive item like this knife, and go with a different seller that has their act together. Please rate my review highly, so others can get this warning too.

Unique Buttcap Can Pierce Glass
In addition to the blade end of the knife, Gerber also gave the LMF II a unique, pointed buttcap that is made of stainless steel. This heavy end can be used to pierce glass in the event you need to egress from a helicopter or other vehicle. The buttcap features a smart design that is physically separated from the tang in order to offer shock absorption when it's used as a hammer and also to prevent electrical shock.

Review of Gerber 22-41028 Serrated River Knife with Form Fitted Sheath

If you're looking for a PFD knife, then you probably already know why you should carry one. If you're going to be out on the water, don't take the risk of leaving without a good PFD knife. You never know when you may need to quickly cut yourself out of fishing lines, rigging, etc. after a capsize or other mishap. And a knife stored on deck won't always be within reach in these situations.

Personally, I'm a kayaker, and I don't fish from my kayak. So deck rigging and lines are minimal. It's still useful for protection in case of a capsize, though. I live in Florida, so in saltwater it's sharks and crocodiles, and in freshwater it's our large population of alligators. Any of these things have the ability to knock you out of your kayak with one good thump, and at that point you're like candy out of a piƱata.Sure, attacks like this are rare, but better safe than sorry. At any rate, there are myriad reasons to have a good PFD knife at the ready.

I like this knife. At first I wasn't too sure about the blunt point, but it's not too bad.It could still do some damage if you needed it to. But it's also safer if you're in the water - imagine accidentally sticking yourself with the point of a knife while in the water. Shark bait. The soft rubbery-feeling grip is easy to get a hold of with wet hands and allows you to keep a sturdy grip. Ridges along the dull edge of the knife add friction to hold your thumb in place while cutting. The blade is very sharp, and as a whole the knife feels sturdy and well-made. Though I hose it down after each outing along with the PFD, it is resistant to rust. Stainless steel may not be a great material choice for a knife that gets heavy everyday use, but it's perfect for an emergency use tool in a marine environment.

In the sheath and attached to the PFD, this knife feels a little large to me.But the knife is the right size, so it's just something to get used to.You don't want a folding knife - moving parts degrade, corrode, stick together. The sheath is made of a heavy duty plastic, and holds the knife in place without any straps, buttons, release mechanisms, etc. This is good - in an emergency, the fewer steps between you and the knife the better. The sheath has a clip to attach to the PFD.I would have liked a loop as well, but the clip works fine.

Hopefully you'll never need to use it, but it's important to have one in case you need it.

Review of Gerber 05849 AR 3.0 Knife, Serrated Edge, Black

I've had this for a couple of years, and the blade locks open as solidly as when I bought it - no jiggle or play. Once you become familiar with it, it's very easy to open and close with one hand - great if you are holding, say, a box that needs to be opened in one hand and need to grab your knife with the other.

It may be a bit largish for casually pulling out in the presence of other people - a bit intimidating perhaps - but a very useful size, and the serration comes in handy for certain hard-to-cut materials. If I ever decide to get a smaller knife, I'll be sure it has the main features of this one: one-hand opening and solidly locking blade.

Review of Gerber 06064 Gator Fine Edge, Drop Point Knife

A great product like this is going to be hard to beat.Gerber got it right when they came up with the Gator grip...The abilities of the knife are endless...The blade is sharp and good, sharpening was not a problem,I have had more than my share of knives and I appreciate the hardness of the blade because it holds an edge relatively well and reduces the need for lots of sharpening... however using a steel routinely helps drastically.

Review of Gerber 22-41122 STL 2.0, Fine Edge Knife

Good points:The steel is very good. There's not much wasted steel in the blade- the edge runs up close to the handle. The blade lock is very secure- there's no chance of accidently releasing the lock. There's no side-to-side wobble of the blade (it feels almost like a fixed blade knife) yet it opens fairly easily. The knife can be disassembled via 7 torx screws which are secured with Locktite. In all these regards I think it's much better than the Gerber 06050 Ultralight LST Folding Knife with Fine Blade

Bad point:The back of the handle is open!I'm constantly detangling it from dimes and sometimes keys in my pocket. Not so good for the edge and- more importantly to me- it's really aggravating. It would have been easy and cheap for Gerber to close the opening. I'd give the knife a 5 star rating if not for this.

Minor quibbles:The product description says, "Thumb slot for one-hand opening". This is difficult to do due to the narrowness of the handle. It can be done, but it takes a far amount of resolute practice. The black finish on the handle doesn't last long- it's wearing through in places on mine after less than a month. This doesn't bother me.

Review of Gerber 45912 Back Axe with Sheath

I purchased this asgift for my dad. It's a small packable camping axe. In my opinion, it is a bit heavy to justify putting it in a backpack, but i'm sure a lot of slackpackers have done so. I bought these to replace a pair of Cabelas brand shears. Those shears did not come apart and the pivot nut kept coming lose, making it difficult to cut off the wings and feet of the birds we shoot.

Right away I was impressed with these shears. We just went through cleaning 41 pheasants last week, cutting off wings, legs & heads, then cutting out the backbone, and we had absolutely no problems. These shears made quick work of the job of cleaning the birds so we could get on with enjoying the rest of the evening.I highly recommend them.

Review of Gerber 22-41795 Profile Fixed Blade Knife, Drop Point

When I first saw this knife I really liked the profile and blade geometry of the knife. After reading several reviews I decided to spend the $20 on what would hopefully turn out to be a "good" small camping and batoning knife. After buying the knife I now have mixed feelings about it.The handle shape does not fit my large hands very well, and the knife was extremely dull out of the package.I own over 200 knifes, several of them Gerber, but this if by far the dullest knife I have ever bought. I may just take it to a grinder and modify it to fit my hands. If I could just remove part of the arc on the butt of the knife so that my pinkie finger would fit, and sharpen the blade it may become suitable for my needs.Unlike the other reviewers here, my sheath actually fits well, and does not let the knife slide at all.The sheath is suitable for a $20 knife.Overall the materials the knife itself is made of seem very good, and I like the idea of being able to remove the scales. The packaging says "surgical steel", but who knows what the ratio of nickel/chrome/molybdenum is.The titanium nitride coating seems fine, but I will see how long it lasts once I start batoning kindling. For a person with smaller hands, this knife could have many uses. For my large hands it just does not fit well.

Review of Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge

I love this knife! I bought one for light use around the house and at work, and I would have to say this is the best money I have spent in a long time. The knife came very sharp and the blade does not dull out as quickly as many other knives tend to do, especially those around this price range. The handle is surprisingly sturdy, the screws came incredibly tight, the clip will never worry you, and the handle fits perfectly in your handle. I have never once feared the blade would come loose even during heavy use, and I never have to worry about the blade coming out in my pocket.

The only thing I don't like about this knife is that, especially with gloves on, the blade is very tough to get out with only one hand. I know most fingernail-release blades like this are the same way, but if the opening was slightly bigger, then the problem would be solved.

Review of Gerber 22-01874 Mark II Knife with Aluminum Handle, Black

This is the quintessential vietnam-era fighting knife. Thanks to Gerber for putting it back on the market, as it had been dicountinued for several years...and the prices for new-in-box and used ones alike on e-bay was well over 150.00 and up. This opportunity allows you to aquire one of these knives at a bargain price (considering what they were going for on e-bay)and new from the manufacturer. My only complaint is the nylon scabbard...I'd have preferred the traditinal leather type, but I'll not complain much. I'm just happy to have found them back on the market...and Gerber may decide to stop production again - who knows? The blade serrations are only a distraction to make it fit the "survival knife" niche, because this is a purely a fighting knife to carry into combat/use for self-defense; you'll not be prying open 55 gallon drums with this one, like some Cold Steel offerings, but it is what it is: a Gerber MKII! A true classic.

Review of Gerber 22-41517 Freehand One-hand Opening Multi-Plier and Sheath

The Gerber Freehand is supposed to be the biggest multi-tool ever made. I must admit that I purchased mine to fulfill my own curiosity, rather than for a real need. I own the Leatherman Surge, their largest multi-tool, and will focus my review of the Freehand on a comparison with that tool. The Freehand is larger than the Surge (both in length when closed and weight), however, the Surge offers more tools. Both offer large locking knife blades that are accessed without opening up the pliers. The Leathern has smoother locks. The Freehand has good blades too, though I must admit that the serrated knife with a rounded tip is not immediately useful to me. The Freehand has NO tools inside the the inner part of the plier handles. In order to keep their one handed opening feather, Gerber seems to have been unable to make room for more tools. There are two big knives, scissors, a fold out ruler that ends in an "industrial driver" and five TINY additional tools. The tiny tools include bottle cap opener, can opener, three screw drivers and a lanyard ring. The one-handed opening feature is good, though I haven't had a chance to prove the pliers yet. I would recommend this tool as a gift or an additional multi-tool for the multi-tool lover; however, I doubt that anyone will want this as his only tool.

The Freehand is strong and durable for reliable performance. View larger.

Gerber's one-hand opening pliers add convenience to this tool. Bigger, Stronger, and Designed to Last
Crafted from high-quality stainless steel, the Freehand has thicker blades than standard multi-tools and a specialized, industrial-strength driver, making it ready to take on big jobs. Whether you're on a road trip, at the jobsite, or exploring the backcountry, you'll find that the strength and durability of this multi-tool suits your needs well. And you'll love the way this heavy-duty tool can be easily opened with one hand, making it as convenient as it is durable.

Job-Specific Tools for Better Results
At the center of the Freehand is a pair of Gerber's patented one-handed opening pliers. With the simple flick of your wrist, these pliers snap into place, ready for action. And that's just the beginning. After the pliers snaps into place stops are deployed so you cannot pinch your hand during use. The safety plus serves two purposes. Locking the tools but by sliding the other direction the smaller tools push up so you can easily pull them out without breaking your finger nails. Unique to all Gerber Multi-Tools are stainless steel shims between all components. This feature allows the user to deploy a single tool without all tools coming out.

Unlike traditional Multi-Tools which often leave you trying to make-do with the wrong tool for a job, the Freehand offers a wide range of 11 easy-to-access outboard tools. Instead of making you pick either a straight blade with a fine edge or a serrated blade that can handle tough rope work, the Freehand gives you both.

It also offers V-cut wire cutters, scissors, a ruler for keeping track of precision work, and both Philips and flathead screwdrivers--so you'll never be without the right tool to get the job done.

Safe, User-Friendly Design
If you've ever had a folding knife close on your hand in the middle of making a tough cut, you'll have a special appreciation for Gerber's Saf.T.Plus system, which locks components securely in place for worry-free use. This proprietary system also helps you keep your hand steady while you're driving screws or trimming wires.

The Freehand Multi-Plier comes with a nylon ballistic-cloth sheath that will protect it from the elements when it's not in use.

If you're looking for even more versatility, Gerber offers an add-on tool kit that contains an adapter, three different sizes of flathead bits, cross point bits, and hex head bits for increased functionality. Also available are several a convenient sharpening systems that can help you keep the blades on your multi-tool in top condition without the hassle of using a whetstone or a round file, including the DF6 Compact Sharpener and the DF8 Sharpener, which uses unique diamond fingers to acheive a perfect 30 degree angle every time you sharpen a blade (tool kit and sharpeners not included).

Savvy.

For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.

Review of Gerber Flick Multi-Plier Needlenose - Gerber 2201054

After buying the gerber flik i noticed it had secondary locks to keep the handles from pinching your hands. When i took a closer look i noticed they were very small to have pressure to be applied to them. What broke on them on the second day? The locks square edges rounded off and gave out. The blades are very good but all the other tools like screw drivers and can/bottle opener work but are way to small and make everything a challenge. But with out the pliers the tool is pointless to own now so hopefully i get my money back. id give that tool a 1 out of 10 for a score if it wasnt for the blades it would get a 0.

Review of Gerber 22-06009 L.S.T. Drop Point, Fine Edge Knife

I first purchased one of these knives several (3 or 4) years ago, and that very same knife is in my pocket now.It lives up the the Gerber name, being a very high quality, lockback pocketknife. One of my favorite features of this knife is that it is very thin and barely noticeable when in your pocket. For those of you who like to have a pocket clip, mine came with a removeable one that fits into the landyard hole at the bottom of the handle. It does a good job holding an edge, I had to sharpen mine fairly often because of the heavy use it recieved. This is a very reliable, high quality knife, and I recommend it to anyone who needs a knife to carry every day for those odd jobs that pop up.

Review of Gerber 22-41493 EVO Jr. Serrated Edge Knife

This knife is great. It clips perfectly on the inside edge of my jeans pocket, and I use it many times each day for opening boxes, cabling packages, etc. It holds its edge for a very long time in between sharpenings, and, more importantly, it keeps its grip and doesn't move, fall off, or open in my pocket. I got my first one at a local store, which no longer carries Gerber knives. When I lost it by leaving it at a job, I searched high and low locally before I finally tried Amazon. Amazon's price was great and I loved the knife so much that I bought 4, just in case I lose one (or more) again.

Review of Gerber 22-80017 Recon-M Flashlight

I just got this flashlight in the mail today, and I love it. It's very compact at only 3.75 inches long and approx 1 inch diameter at the bezel. It's short enough that it is just the width of my palm. If I hold it so the bezel is at the edge of my palm, and I grip it using my pinkie, ring, and middle fingers, my thumb and index finger are in perfect position to rotate the tailcap on/off switch - just right, no extra bulk. With the flashlight on, if you rotate the tailcap to just past the off position, you can then turn it on momentarily by pressing on the tailcap with your thumb. I think the size is great - any smaller and it would be difficult to use, any bigger and it would be unnecessary bulk (I intend to attach it to a lanyard to hang around my neck). That said, if you have giant hands you may find this awkwardly small, I usually wear a medium size glove (8.5 inch hands). It feels nice and solid, the finish is great, and I love that it runs on one inexpensive AA battery not those lithium ones. I also appreciate that they gave it a lanyard attachment hole, and a very sturdy (and removable) pocket clip. It's not going to be the light you'll reach for if you're trying to blind everything within a quarter mile and turn night into day, however it seems perfectly adequate for close-range use (ie. less than 10 feet). I am a helicopter pilot, and wanted this light for preflight use and to hang around my neck as a backup light in the cockpit should my headlamp fail. With that purpose in mind I appreciate the flexibility that this flashlight offers with white, red, green and blue light. I use a red head lamp, so by setting this light to its green setting I can use it to better distinguish features on charts that are difficult to see under red light. I'm already wondering if I should have bought a second one... maybe a third...

Review of Gerber 22-41586 Torch II Tanto G-10 Black Serrated Edge Knife

I chose this knife as a birthday present for myself and I love it. I've had other Gerbers before but they were usually fairly small and felt awkward in my hands if I had to use any kind of force or pressure to cut something. The Torch II Tanto feels good in my hands. Like the other reviewer said, it is heavy but I'd rather say that it's just big boned.
The finger flip opening/finger guard works very well. This was my first knife with that type of opening as an option and it took a day or two to get used to it but now I can flip it open just as fast as a knife withassisted opening. The finger guard is just a big plus.
The blade isn't as sharp as I expected a Gerber blade to be but it is still very sharp and cuts very well. Overall a great knife that I carry with me everywhere but to work.

Review of Gerber Superknife 22-00551 SK Edge Aluminum Folding Knife, Tactical

I have the original superknife and I bought this one because the original required you to remove a screw to replace the blade. This one has simplified the process. The thumb stud that opens the blade is also the unlocking mechanism for the blade. The only problem is that I've found that I accidentally push down on the stud, thereby releasing the blade, while I"m using the knife.I suggest going to Superkinfe's website and buying one of the newer models in the hopes that they have corrected this little glitch.

Review of Gerber 22-41022 Obsidian Serrated Edge Knife With Screwdriver and Bottle Opener

After some shopping around for a pocket knife with the "essential" tools, I decided to go for the Gerber Obsidian. The full-blown multi-tools have more than I really need; a knife with both Philips and flat screwdrivers covers 90% of my on-the-go tool needs.I think a tool that's a knife first also results in better overall ergonomics.

Pros:
1. Sturdy, well made.Everything from the knife to the screwdrivers to the pocket clip is beefy and solid.I don't expect it to break. If it does, it's covered by Gerber's lifetime warranty.

2. Ambidextrous, mostly.I'm left-handed and have no trouble with quick one-handed opening and closing of the blade with either hand using the thumb stud.I said "mostly" because the pocket clip, plunger, and safety slide are really positioned for the right-handed person. If you want to operate the blade quickly out of your left pocket, it's not going to work because the pocket clip won't orient it properly on your left side. It's perfectly oriented for that kind of access from the right pocket.

3. I like the plunger lock better than the liner lock on the comparable Leatherman models. With a liner lock, you have to put your thumb in the path of the closing blade which would seem to make one-handed closing tenuous at best. With the plunger lock, I can safely close the blade with one hand, left or right.

4. Speaking of the comparable Leatherman models, the Obsidian feels rather thin in comparison.I don't have the thickness of the Leatherman, but having handled one in a store it just felt too thick. The Obsidian is about 5/8" at the thickest part, not including the pocket clip.

5. It feels pretty light in my pocket.

6. The safety slide is a pretty good idea.It just prevents depressing the plunger and accidentally releasing the blade onto your hand. That can happen with a normal grip.I already had one occasion where I inadvertently pressed the plunger.Nothing bad happened, but I think I'll use the safety.Maybe. :)

7. Obviously, I like the mix of tools. There's also a file on the side of the Philips screwdriver and a bottle opener on the flat screwdriver.

Cons:
1. The nylon part of the handle is too smooth.Fortunately the ergonomics of the handle shape provide a good grip, but a deeper waffle pattern would be an improvement.

2. Careful, the screwdrivers don't lock. It'd probably add weight to add that, and then I'd probably say it's too heavy. :)

3. The knife isn't as sharp as I expected.I have a Gerber Ultralight LST, and it's awesome sharp.I'm sure the Obsidian will sharpen to that level, but I really think it should have come that way.To be fair, the serrated edge is really sharp.I can't comment on how well it will hold its edge.(See the update below.)

I'm happy with my choice of a knife over a multi-tool, and with the Obsidian.I have no problem recommending it.

Update:I've had this knife for a few weeks now and want to note that I haven't been able to sharpen the blade to anywhere near as sharp as my little Gerber Ultralight (which I've never even needed to sharpen). And after I sharpen it (with a diamond sharpener block), the edge seems to dull quickly. Now I'm not a sharpening expert, so maybe I'm doing a poor job at it, but it should have come from the factory a lot sharper than it did.So I'll just keep trying to sharpen this one until the steel is gone.Maybe by then there will be an alternative besides the comparable Leatherman knives (with the scary liner lock and the uncomfortably oversized width) that do not interest me at all.

Review of Gerber 22-41846 DF6 Compact Sharpener

This sharpener is well made and sharpens a knife blade well but for small knifes it has a big flaw. You can't seem to get the last 1/2 inch or so against the handle sharpened. For a long blade that wouldn't matter but I mostly use small pocket knives and missing a quarter of the blade is isn't good.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Gerber 22-41846 DF6 Compact Sharpener

With the DF6 Sharpener you get perfect 30 degree edges quickly and easily every time. There are no special skills needed to sharpen all types of knives and axes. The specially curved diamond coated fingers replicate the swipe across a traditional honing steel. One swipe through the DF8 equals six swipes across a regular steel. Once you use this sharpener blades almost never need regrinding because the edges never get rounded like they can with other honing and sharpening steels. Small table top, compact design.

Review of Gerber 22-01463 Coyote Brown LMF II Infantry Knife

I laugh when I see people carrying 12 inch (or larger) knives out in the wilderness, because those knives are just too big to do the things you need done -- cut rope for a shelter, whittle branches for a trap, clean a fish, etc. The problem with going with a thin knife is that the blade will just not hold up to abuse (e.g. hammering it into a small sapling or shaving off the bark of a cedar tree).

That's where the LMF II fits in nicely. It's very sturdy, holds (and takes) a sharp edge, and is small enough to keep you from accidentally cutting your hand off.

My only complaint with the LMF II is the sheath. It's designed to stick to a Molex vest (think velcro) or strap to your calf. You can put the knife on a regular belt, but you have to get a small cord to tie it around your thigh, because the straps that come with the sheat are too large (they'll chafe your legs). I'd love to see this knife come with a custom fit leather sheath. Otherwise, great knife. Definitely get one, you won't be disappointed.

Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful.

Whether you need to cut firewood, build a shelter, or slice through a seat belt, the LMF II survival knife has you covered. It was designed to adapt to a wide variety of situations, so you'll never have to worry whether you have the right knife.
Smart, Versatile, Comfortable Design
The LMF II features an overmolded handle, which helps prevent hand blisters and provides a secure grip. It is also designed with lashing holes, allowing it to be converted into a spear and extending its usability. The coyote brown color keeps you inconspicuous.
Sheath Included with Built-In Sharpener
A low-profile sheath is included and it features a built-in carbide sharpener. The stainless steel blade can withstand a ton of abuse, but if it ever gets damaged or needs sharpening, you won't be stuck out in the open with a dull knife. The sheath facilitates movement and attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest.

Review of Gerber 22-80010 Infinity Ultra LED Task Light, Green

I own the original Infinity Ultra, but it hasn't changed too much since Gerber bought out CMG.The Infinity Ultra has the double bright LED (for the same power consumption), aircraft grade aluminum, waterproofed to 10', and runs for 100 hours on a single AA battery.Gerber has changed it to have a screw on butt style, which I actually don't like as much. The original solid tube style seems much sleeker, but you can still find them without this change by Gerber if this bothers you like it does me.

I run mine on a Lithium battery, which provides an exceptional run-time, storage life and better cold weather capability.I don't use it constantly, so I'm actually still on my first Li Battery which is now over 2 years old - but it has been on for hours at a time while working repairs for my machines or around the house. They aren't kidding about the 100 hours and that's with a standard AA!

The light is very bright, the machined case is well built, yet simple in design. My model has a lanyard hole in the back end and it came with a neck size lanyard - the newer Gerber model comes with a clip that friction mounts to the outside.I prefer the former, but would appreciate the hands-free capabilities of the latter as an option. It's useful as a signal light up to a mile, and has about a 30' throw. It weighs about 2oz. and is about 3.5" long.It has a "circuit boost" technology to make the LED run for a longer time on batteries with a steady output.

I carry this light all the time, but one thing it could use is a nylon belt pouch. It's not too bad in the pocket, but I like to keep it thin if possible. At any rate, I've NEVER had any problems with this light and as a flashlight geek, it stands ahead of most every other light I own.I fully recommend it and hope Gerber continues with the high quality (it appears they are doing just that!)

Product Description:
LED lights are incredible-they use hardly any power, yet kick out a huge amount of light for their size. They're reliable too, as the LEDs themselves are built inside a solid case, making them more durable than incandescent lights with their easily-shattered glass bulbs. And consider this: while the average incandescent bulb may last 50,000 hours-at best-before it burns out, an LED can last 100,000 hours or more.
Like many other manufacturers, Gerber has started offering a line of LED flashlights, including the Infinity Ultra Task. In addition to the durability and longevity you get via the LED bulbs, this little light features epoxy-coated circuitry, which means its insides won't fall to pieces if you drop it or accidentally smack it against a rock. According to the manufacturer, the Infinity Ultra is waterproof down to 10 feet, too.
Though the Infinity Ultra's beam is very bright for its size, this is not the best flashlight for navigating unlit country roads at night or for exploring abandoned warehouses-in these cases you'd want more than the 30-foot beam you get with this light. It is perfect for camping, however, where its durability, small size, and light weight make it ideal for hauling in a pack and illuminating a tent.
Overall, a great little product from a reliable manufacturer. Includes one AA battery.--Josh Dettweiler

Review of Gerber 07540G Multi-Plier 600-Needlenose

not the best for a surf fisherman.I really like the tool, and the one-handed snap-out of the pliers is really handy.Until, that is, a couple of grains of sand get in the tool. The little push-button latching mechanism does not like sand at all!For fresh water fishing this would be fine.Otherwise, I'm very happy with the overall strength and quality of the tool, and would have no problems recommending it for other use besides surf fishing.

Review of Gerber 22-41121 Prodigy Survival Combat Knife

I just got this knife and I must say I am impressed.I debated on buying the larger LMF model because of the overwhelming review rating...that being said I am glad that I saved $25.The only difference really between the two is the ability to make a spear and lash the LMF to a pole, a built in sharpener, and a hammer like surface. The Prodigy may not have these things but it is well balanced...heafty...has a great grip in your hand...and the sheath is very adjustable....So if you want the beef of the LMF without the price...The Prodigy is a great survival...bushwaking, backcountry knife.

Review of Entrenching Tool Folding, with Plastic Foliage Green Sheath

I needed a shovel for long hikes and camping trips.I looked in the outdoors section of many stores and only found small ones were made from cheap material.Once I found this one from Gerber, I knew it was going to be a solid piece of equipment.Once I got it out of the package I could instantly see and feel how sturdy it was.It folds out from two spots and has a very simple twist lock. The blade has a durable serrated edge which I have tested on trees along the trail. The shovel when folded fits perfectly in its molded plastic sheath. The sheath has an H-harness which works perfectly for my Camelbak backpack.I admit, the price is a little high for the average outdoorsman/woman but those who what a rugged tool that can be a shovel, saw, hammer, etc...look no further.

Review of Gerber 22-49470 Gator Combo Axe

The knife slides inside the shaft of the axe which is great. It locks in with magnetism. It's a great little back pack axe and both hold a really nice edge. I walked around the woods all hunting season and never lost the knife. The gator grip makes it 100% better when conditions are wet.

Review of Gerber Legendary Blades 47530 600 Multi Plier

I initally bought this tool in '97 while in the military for one reason , it opened with one hand so I could remove radio antennas from my Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Little did I know a the time how useful this tool was. I say was, because of all the things this tool is, unfortunately,it is not loss or theft proof. My Gerber has helped me fix an outboard motor that quit while we were fishing, cut up a sub sandwich when there was no knife at the summit, filed off sharp edges of my kids toys, and just been a great all around tool when someone says "Got a knife?" Unfortunately the wire cutters will only cut soft metals but mine has cut and stripped many wires. Another big plus; I only had to sharpen the knives twice in 13 years. I've carried this thing everywhere from the battlefield to the board room, I won't be without it.
