Review of Gerber 22-41515 Radius Multi-plier w/Sheath

I have Leathermans and Swisstools, and this Gerber. The Gerber is the worst.Made cheaply in China. The Leatherman is better, but the finish is rough. The Victorinox is by far the best and the best value.

Review of Gerber 22-47167 Trendy Folding Clip Knife with Fine Edge and Black Onlay

I originally purchased this knife to help me at work with opening parcels and packages, undoing those plastic ties. The blade that comes out is very sharp, and has not dulled in the several months I used the knife. I am still able to slice through a thin piece of paper with very little effort.

The blade is indeed short, and because the handle is not much bigger, people with larger hands will probably not enjoy using this knife. Otherwise, aesthetically it is very pleasing, a minimalistic knife with a simple design, and a clip that does not make the knife too bulky. Everything is anodized aside from the blade edge, giving it that dull look to make it less noticeable. You can clip it into your jeans easily and forget it's there. With other knives, the plastic accents have fallen off after moderate to heavy use, but mine have not budged since- proof of Gerber's fine craftsmanship for even their lower end knives.

The knife blade is secure in both closed and open position. There is a solid, good click to indicate that the blade is locked in either position, and the blade will not open or close accidentally once in place. This is a two handed open knife, and I do not believe you can mod it safely to become an assisted open, as there are no catches in place, and the blade's size and weight is not conducive to a flick open. Therefore, this knife is strictly utility use only. (Plus, if you were going for a self defense knife, you should probably get something with a larger hilt to hold comfortably)

At the moment my knife sits to the side of my desk, but it still sees a lot of use, and has not let me down yet. I've had this for almost three years and it still looks brand new.

Review of Gerber 30-000012 Metolius E-Z Open Fixed Blade Knife with Fine Edge

This is a great knife to get that first long cut of the hide off any animal and bird. I've already done a deer and a goose with this. The tip prevents you from accidentally cutting into the gut layer before your ready. It's easy to sharpen with a simple pencil sharpener. It's great to make a nice straight line cut for a bear rug or deer/elk shoulder mount. For fish, it's great for making that cut on a salmon or steelhead and not puncturing the skeins of the eggs. It's extremely easy to clean and much easier to sharpen than other 'gut hooks'.

Review of Gerber 48252 Carbide Cutter Insert Replacements

I love this system used on some of the Gerber multitools. it allows you to replace the worn or damaged wire cutters, by simply removing the 2 screws and either turning it to a new edge or completely replacing them if all the edges are worn. The only shortcoming I can see is that the screw heads are so shallow it is hard for the wrench to get a good grip.

Review of Gerber 48239 Legend Multi-Plier 800

I love multitools and knives. I havemany Gerbers as well as Leathermans and others. I find the gerber multitools a bit lacking overall but this particular model is very nice. The fit and finish are very good compared to the 400/600 series andthe diesel as well as the suspension, flik and freehand. The tools are accessible without opening the pliers. The knife blade is a combo edge and is kind of small but is very sharp and is easy to keep that way. The bead blast finish does make it slightly more suceptible to rust but if you keep it clean after cutting, it should not be an issue. The spring loaded pliers are very nice and heavily built. They don't open as wide as Leatherman,Sog and Victorinox multitools though. This may or may not be an issue for you. The replaceable carbide wire cutters are a nice touch which are just now being copied in Leatherman's new supertool 300 (LM uses 154cm stainless for their cutters instead of carbide)The remgrit saw is very nice. A few years back my friend had a flat tire and his spare was padlocked under his truck. He forgot his key and we were far from home. A gerber 600 with the remgrit saw was the only thing we had that would cut it. It took awhile but it got the job done and we were back on the road. The fiskars scissors are very sharp and cut very well even though they are short. The screwdrivers are well made but are too short IMO. There is room for longer ones but all Gerber multi's have very short drivers. This model is made in USA. At least mine is. Most of the newer gerber MT's are from China.

Review of Gerber 22-01832 Freeman Stag S30V Steel Fixed Blade Knife, Drop Point

The blade on this knife makes it an excellent hunting knife.I own a few other knives (Buck, Case, Victorinox, Wenger and others) but the S30V steel in the Gerber Freeman Stag makes it the best cutting knife in the bunch.Edge retention is outstanding and out of the box the knife was the sharpest I've ever held in my hand. The stag handle adds a touch of classic ruggedness that I've come to appreciate. It also comes with a good quality leather sheath which is something that's not too common with knife purchases anymore.

I had looked in many sporting good stores and they all had the knife listed for around $120.00...some even more. It's worth the $120.00+ which makes it an exceptional value in this listing.I purchased the knife about a month ago when it was being sold directly from Amazon and the shipping was free.I see now that it's listed by Big Edge Sports.

The only second thought was whether I should have purchased the gut-hook model.Personally, I don't like the idea of having to sharpen a gut-hook on any knife but since this knife holds an edge exceptionally well, I think the hook could cut several hides before it would need to be resharpened.

I highly recommend the knife...

Review of Gerber 22-41979 Commemorative 70th Anniversary LST Knife With Keychain And Collectable Tin

The knife was a bit of a dissapointment.

The blade wasn't ground correctly and had small point as the edge curved up to the tip.The edge was ruffly sharpened, looked like 120 grit.I you're expecting a polished edge or blade, this knife will not come with this feature. However the blade was fairly sharp. To be useful mine will have to be reground, honed, this polished.

The folding locking mechanism worked well. The blade when opened and locked is stiff with little to no play. This is probably the best feature of the knife.

The is a very small knife, a mini knife. The entire knife when opened was about the size of about half of a dollar bill.

Also, the descrition says the knife is made in the usa, but this is not true. That back of package clearly says it is "Made In China"Personally, I wouldn't have bought the knife at any price knowing it was made in China.Considering this fact, I would put the value of this knife around $2-4.00Any value from this being a commemorative product is lost being made in china in my opinion.

Review of Gerber 22-41507 Clutch Mini Pliers Tool, Red

This Gerber Clutch Mini Pliers Tool (in its so-called Red Tail Hawk color, as you see here) is the second one we've gotten. The first one was a Gerber Clutch Mini Pliers Tool in the "Special Ops Gray" color. It was purchased for my son as a Christmas present, and it became a tool that he came to love almost as much as his Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker Knife.

This handy device is a compact multi-tool, and it has red anodized aluminum handles with the Gerber and Clutch names on one side, as can be seen in the photos. The handles have been drilled out in eight places, possibly to reduce weight or more likely for visual appeal. There's a small keychain ring on one end of the tool.

The Clutch are six stainless steel tools packed between its handles, and they consist of a 1.75 in (44 mm) knife blade, small flat screwdriver, a simple cross-point (Phillips) screwdriver, a file combined with a nail cleaner, a bottle opener combined with a medium flat screwdriver, and a pair of tweezers. The tools all snap into place very well, and the handles also enclose the spring-loaded needle nose mini-pliers.

This little multi-tool sees almost daily use, and the needle nose pliers are small enough to be exceptionally handy. They have a good grip, and as they're spring loaded, they've been quite good for basic one-handed uses when necessary.

The small screwdriver works very well, as does the larger one, and the tips are the right size for light work. The flattened Phillips head screwdriver is alright for very light work, and from its design one can see that it's not made for heavy-duty work. Don't get me wrong, as there would be no way to put a full #2 Phillips head on a multi-tool of this size.

The tweezers work well also, as I found out recently when removing a couple of glass splinters from my finger while removing a broken mirror in a bathroom.

The knife blade is very sharp. I've had to sharpen mine a few times, and the blade on mine seems to be a bit 'softer' than that on my son's version, so I keep it for light use only. Others have reported that the tip bends easy, so remember to use it as a knife blade only, and not as a screwdriver or a lever. It does a great job opening newly-arrived packages and cartons from Amazon!

Pros:
* Excellent value for the money.
* The small needle nose plier head makes it quite quite handy.
* The red handles make the Clutch easy to find and locate.
* It has a limited lifetime warranty, and Gerber is good with them.

Cons:
* The anodized aluminum handles may show wear over time.
* Blade requires sharpening a bit more than other similar products.

Summary:

I'm rating this at 4.5, and only slightly downgrading it because of questions on the blade sharpness as already noted above. If used as it's intended it should be quite functional for many years.

This multi-tool is quite similar to the Leatherman Squirt P4 Multitool which also has the small pliers, but it's larger than my Leatherman Micra Multitool, another handy tool that I've had for years (see my review). The smaller Micra has scissors, but no pliers, so they are different small multi-tools for different purposes.

If these seem that they might be too small for your use, then check out the Gerber Suspension Multi-Plier. This larger model is highly functional, and is another good example of Gerber meeting the ongoing needs of their customers.

The Gerber Clutch is a bargain, and it's also a present for birthdays and Christmas stocking stuffers... and for Christmas, the color is right!

Review of Gerber 45871 AR 3.50 Black, Serrated Edge Knife

Gerber generally makes really good, affordable blades but this one is above most of their other products.I collect knives, and since Gerber blades tend to be a little more affordable they usually end up being my "workhorse blade".They always keep their edge no matter the abuse and I have been impressed with this one as well. The blade hinge is smooth, locks firmly in place and is really comfortable in my hand.It can open for a left handed person and is really attractive.Really like it.

Review of Gerber 22-41772 Ripstop 14 Function Multi Tool

I've carried a first-gen Leatherman Wave for many years now, but have been looking around at other tools lately to replace or at least serve as a backup to my Wave. The Gerber Ripstop came recommended and had a couple features I liked a lot, so I decided to give it a try.

The biggest thing I had against the Ripstop is that it felt big.I have medium sized hands, and my Wave fit really well in my palm when the pliers were opened.I could hold it in one hand with ease while working on something. The Ripstop feels a lot wider, to the point that I have to make a conscious effort to hold on to it.The spring-open pliers are a nice feature when I'm cutting a series of wires or need to keep pinching something, but since they're so wide it's also led to me dropping the Ripstop more than once. When I hold onto it and I'm not in immediate need to the pliers I generally have to hold onto one "leg" of the tool instead of having them ready to grip.Using the Ripstop continuously for a period of time tends to lead to muscle fatigue; it just doesn't fit right. If you've got bigger hands it'll probably fit you perfectly, though.

Another thing I wasn't impressed with at all was the blade quality. When I felt along side of the blade right out of the package it felt like there were numerous small nicks and imperfections.I need to get the whetstone out and see what I can do with it, but even after 8 years my never-sharpened Wave blade bares none of the marks that the new-out-of-the-package Ripstop does.

The Phillips driver is, in short, a joke.I wanted a tool with a dedicated screwdriver tool (instead of a bit driver that are common on the new Leatherman models) and was sorely disappointed. That alone is almost a deal breaker for me.

I realize that it's not really fair to compare a $65 Leatherman tool with the $30 Ripstop, but at least for me I know which on is living on my hip and which one stays in the drawer.

Review of Gerber 75231 Gator Fillet, 7.5" Fine Edge Knife

This is an excellent knife, but you should be careful opening it.

When it arrived here it was in a plastic clamshell case that needed to be cut open with scissors.I did this standing in the middle of the kitchen; I recommend you do it over the counter and I'll explain why.

Upon opening the packaging the knife fell free, hit the floor, bounced, and embedded itself in my right leg.I was very surprised.

Several weeks later I'm left with a small scar and an amusing story, but -- like I said, be careful opening it.

It is an outstanding knife, and works very well for cutting fish in addition to stabbing yourself in the leg with.I highly recommend it, except for the stabbing bit.

Review of Gerber 22-01772 14-Function Ripstop Multi Tool

Well, I gotta give this item TWO thumbs-up!

This thing is amazing! Very cool design, but more importantly, it's a very practical tool! It has just about any feature you could ask for in a multitool, and I'm pretty sure it could withstand anything you can throw at it.

All the individual blades (scissors, saw, knives, file, drivers, etc), are all easily accessible from the outside, meaning you don't have to unfold the item to use any of the blades, and all of these items, including the lanyard eye hole, all fully lock into place, and the only way to release them, is to use the built-in unlocking-levers. Very clever feature! This means no fear of cutting your fingers while using each blade.

Features of the Gerber Ripstop include: Scissors, regular blade, serrated blade, bottle opener, slotted & philips drivers, spring loaded pliers, lanyard eye, and a VERY sturdy saw blade, with an excellent cutting pattern! Right out of the box, all the blades were very sharp, and the tool comes with a very durable nylon sheath, which can be mounted on your belt either vertically, or horizontally. It has both sets of belt loops sewn right in!

I only have 2 small issues: (and they're very SMALL issues for me):

1) The Philips screwdriver was not stamped properly during the manufacturing process. It works (to a degree), but, mine has a tendency to strip a Philips screw head if I'm not careful. Is it a big deal to me? No, not really.... Again, it might just be a fluke thing that happened during manufacturing? Who knows?

2) It's fairly heavy for a multitool. This might be a turn-off for some hikers/campers, who really want to travel as light as possible, BUT, in my opinion I feel that this is "good weight", not "bad weight".

Conclusion:

Best "bang-for-buck" out there, for multitools! Great product for anyone, any hobby, or any profession! Musicians, hunters, mechanic, camping, handy-man, EMT, Policeman, Fire/Rescue, tradespeople, etc etc etc...Or just someone who likes awesome gadgets! Overall, this is an EXCELLENT product, extremely ergonomic (it really fits your hands very well), and it's VERY well-built. For the money, I'd take this over a more expensive brand ANY day of the week! In fact, I like it much better than my very expensive Leatherman! You would TRULY be foolish not to grab one of these, especially at $30 BUCKS! It's literally a "STEAL"!

Review of Gerber 22-41075 Aluminum Presto 3.0 Fine Edge Knife

Gerber 22-41075 Aluminum Presto 3.0 Fine Edge Knife

I like pocket knives. I think the shape of a blade can be beautiful, elegant, and sublime. Plus, I just always seem to need something to cut, scrape, or pry with. In the Army, I got in the habit of always having something handy for workaday stuff. In fact, I came back from Iraq with enough pocket knives in my footlocker to stop the customs inspecter in his tracks. Until he started laughing.

With my experience, I think this is a great knife for the price. Gerber has always made a good steel that seems to me to just take and edge and hold it better than anything else I've found in the price range. These knives come in plain edge or serrated (I prefer plain because I can sharpen the whole blade) and this specific line, the Presto, is an *assisted-opening* knife where you start the opening movement and a small spring helps it along. Check your local laws for legality.

Pros:
Great steel, takes an edge and keeps it.
Assisted opening.
Slim profile -- clips in your pocket (I keep mine next to my wallet).
Variety of options -- smaller blades, plain blades, serrated blades.
Good grip.

Cons:
Watch the lock button and learn to use it -- you don't want this opening in your pocket!

I gave one to my brother and he came back from a camping trip recently. He'd used his blade to hack at wood and make kindling and he showed me the edge was still sharp enough to pass the arm-hair test.

Review of Gerber 22-48446 Paraframe I Knife, Ti-Grey, Fine Edge

This knife is my first but it has done me very well so far. The blade was used in everyday condition life, as well as survival type situations. I have cut rope, tape, pretty good sized branches, thick rubber and alot of other types of things and the blade hung on for a good month of everyday usage, then required some sharpening. The whole knife itself is very sturdy, has a good balance, nice and lightweight, it sort of just cradles in your hand. The cuts in the frame helps your hand breath and evaporate the sweat off and helps prevent the dropping of the knife. The belt clip is very sturdy and has not needed tightening yet, knock on wood, and my belt is quite thick. Hopes this helps a future buyer, very recomended.

Review of Gerber 22-80106 Firecracker LED Flashlight, Metallic Green

I carried this light in my pocket for more than two years of general use. It has a bright focused beam with a much dimmer "moon glow" wide area light (typical for this type of focused LED). The beam is narrow (casting a spot about one foot in diameter at 20 feet) and can cast shadows at over a hundred feet. I have read license plates at over 100 feet using this (allowing for the fact that license plates are reflectorized). It has a twist type on/off switch which has at times turned itself on in my pocket. The only reason that I give this four versus five stars is that a few times a year I would find that it had turned on by itself and drained the battery. If you carry this in a holster this probably would not be a problem. Also, twist on/off type flashlights tend to be slightly more difficult to use than click switch types, but are less prone to eventual failure. One of the things you end up doing with this light is loosening it beyond the point of turning it off to lessen the chance of accidental activation. The downside of doing this is that it may further unscrew and come apart in your pocket. This flashlight is very solidly built of machined aluminum. It appears to be virtually unbreakable, other than for a fairly thin front lens, though this is well inset into the frame (don't try to bash anything with the front of this light or you'll destroy the lens). There is a momentary on/off switch at the back end suitable for signalling, or for quick use by holding the button down continuously. After two solid years of use the light shows light scratching on the painted surface but no other wear. Note that you can use NiMH rechargable AA batteries, but this gives you a slightly dimmer light than a regular alkaline AA (if you use this constantly this will save you a bunch of money for a little bit less usable light...a good trade-off). The single AA is a good feature, since it provides the brightness equivalent to many 2-AA lights.

Review of Gerber 22-41414 Gator II Drop Point, Fine Edge Knife

I have always been a buck, kershaw and gerber knife guy. I love their products, they are sharp and well built. I have about 10 knives overall from these 3 manufacturers.

This is BY FAR the best knife i have ever owned. the price is not bad, it is a good sized blade, doesn't weight anything because of the composite handle (which has the BEST grip and feel that i have ever felt)

It is a SHARP blade, i can shave with it, if it came down to it. It is also very thick, which is great if you are rough with your knives. I use this day to day for all kinds of things, sawing, cutting, chopping etc. I havent had any damages to it, and it still looks great. It hasnt even lost its factory edge yet.

I bought this knife because Bear from the survival show mentioned it and said that it was one of his favorite knives. I know why now. It is a great knife.

If you are looking for a great knife that you can someday pass down to your kids, get it. Its that well built. (not to mention the lifetime warranty and lifetime sharpening from gerber)

I have multiple fixed blade knives for working, but this is the main folding knife that I carry with me. It opens very easily and smoothly. Some other knives are difficult to open with one hand, either because of their small size or just poor design.Keep in mind that this is not a "gentleman's" blade and a law enforecement officer informed that a CCWP would be necessary to carry this blade around in your pocket or holstered (at least in Florida).

Review of Gerber 22-48444 Paraframe I Knife, Fine Edge

This knife is amazing! When I took it out of its packaging I cut up the plastic it was in before sharpening it. It cut through it like a razor blade. This will be the knife I carry around every day because it is perfect for everyday uses and it is the right size.I don't know if it could ever break because of its sturdy construction. I dont know if I wouldtake it camping though because I would want something more like the Gerber Infantry LMF knife or something like that that is a little bigger and also has a serrated section. Great knife and if you buy it you will be satisfied the moment you get it out of the box.

Review of Gerber 22-48448 Paraframe II Knife, Stainless, Fine Edge

To start I really like this knife; I have been through several knifes that range from $5 to $30 and this one works well without costing more. They have changed the way the knife locks and so a previous problem has been remedied. Now the frame holds the knife in place and will not close without serious force. So, if you are looking for a knife to keep handy on your pocket, that will open with one hand, stay in place, stay sharp, and not break the bank. Then buy this knife.

Review of Gerber 22-80107 Tempo Compact LED Flashlight, Metallic Green

When I first put this dandy thing on my keychain, I was delighted. Upon closer examination, however, the bloom came off the rose. Yes, it is a very competent keychain LED flashlight, but not really better than its competitors.

This is, I assume, Gerber's attempt to make a lesser expensive, smaller version of the well-acclaimed Infinity Ultra it inherited from CMG. It uses a 5mm Nichia LED that is unusually bright, even for the Nichia. As such, I was surprised at how strong the light was and, unlike other similar products, surprised at how well it projected its light many feet away; better, the color of the LED was more white than usual.

However, there was much to dislike. The barrel was solid, machined metal but appeared to be anodized. Just the act of inserting the hole onto a standard keyring scraped away some of the colorized coating. The lanyard hole itself was a bit too small: the first 2 rings I tried were too wide for the hole and did not fit; only the third keyring, which is rather narrow in diameter, fitted. It is NOT weatherproof, water resistant, or anything else. Although the end cap has a rubber O-ring, you have to loosen it to turn of on the light so that water can get by the O-ring. Also, the LED head does not appear to be sealed. Do not let this thing get wet.

It uses only one AAA battery and is OK, but a little large for your keyring (2-3/4 inches; add 1/8 inch for the keyring mount); plus, changing the battery is very easy. The light it makes is very bright and very useable. I do not have immediate access to either the Infinity Ultra or Inova X1, its competitors. However, I do have the Garrity Keylight (looks like a stick of gum) and a Photon knock-off, so I compared the Tempo to these. The strength of the Tempo is better than the other 2, but only by a small margin; you probably will not notice the difference. However, the 2 other keychain lights use expensive batteries that are a royal pain in the you-know-what to change. The Tempo uses a cheap, easy to get AAA battery that is easy to change.

In the end, I give the advantage to the Garrity Tempo. I liked it, but I was not overwhelmed.

Postscript. I have had this thing on my keychain everyday for several weeks. I can happily report that it has been a reliable, useful keychain flashlight, and I recommend it highly. You will like it.

Review of Gerber 22-47161 Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Serrated Knife

I've owned this for almost 6 months now, and I'm still very pleased with its performance.

I had read some reviews that suggested that the Gerber FAST spring-assist would sometimes open in the pocket. I'm happy to report that this has never happened to me. I've carried this in my pocket in tight- and loose-fitting pants/shorts, and I've never had any problem with unanticipated opening.

I was a bit worried that the spring would wear out over time, but it shows no signs of weakening yet.

UPDATE:
I've now had this knife for over a year and it is still holding up great. I have honed the forward (non-serrated) portion of the blade a couple of times and it takes and holds an edge well. The serated part of the blade is still sharp and cuts well, but if I were to buy another, I would get the non-serrated version .

Whether you're finishing up a weekend project in the garage or heading up a mountain rescue operation, Gerber's Serrated FAST Draw 22-47161 Folding Knife is ready to help you take on the challenge. Strong yet lightweight, this fun and easy-to-use knife features the patented F.A.S.T. blade opening technology that is pleasingly easy to open with just one hand.
The Gerber FAST Draw 22-47161 Folding Knife offers:
  • A 2.99-inch serrated, drop-point blade
  • Strong, high-carbon stainless steel
  • F.A.S.T. spring assisted opening
  • A durable, glass-filled nylon handle

The FAST Draw knife is durable, lightweight, and reliable. View larger.

View larger. Innovative Technology for Quick, Reliable Deployment
The FAST Draw relies on Forward Action Spring Technology, or F.A.S.T., that was designed exclusively for Gerber and patented by famed Oregon knife maker Butch Vallotton. Butch is known as "Mr. Mechanism" in the custom-knife world, a tribute to his unique designs and exceptional understanding of opening and locking mechanisms. This new, proprietary blade opening concept means that you can deploy your knife quickly and easily using just one hand.
Of course, when a job calls for more deliberate actions, you can also open this knife in the traditional way, using the thumb stud. This is the closest you can get to a street legal switch-blade.
Convenient, Safe, and Dependable Over Time
A sharp knife is not only more useful than a dull knife, it's also safer to use. With a strong, sharp blade, you can make the cuts you want quickly and efficiently. That's why Gerber uses a high-carbon stainless steel blade on the FAST Draw. This large, 2.99-inch blade offers a serrated cutting surface that is perfect for tough jobs like rope and scaling fish. FAST Draw is the first in a series of knives utilizing "Fast Technonogy." Others include the Mini-Fast, Draw, Aluminum Presto 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, Vallotton, PR2.5 and PR3.0, Convert Fast, Mini Convert Fast, Answer 3.25, Tanto and Drop Point F.A.S.T.
This drop point blade, which is stronger than the clip-point style blades used on many pocket knives, fits neatly in the handle when not in use, so you don't have to worry about damaging it or hurting yourself.
The knife is precisely balanced to sit comfortably in your hand and features a glass-filled nylon handle for strength and durability. Texturing on the handle surface ensures a secure grip for improved control.
At just 3.6 ounces, the slim FAST Draw knife is light enough to take with you anywhere. And with the included sturdy pocket clip, you always know right where your knife is.
Gerber's History of Ingenuity

Review of Gerber 45786 Applegate Covert Double Bevel Titanium Knife, Black

The Gerber Applegate Covert Folder is one excellent knife.

The 154 CM steel holds an edge and is easy to resharpen when required. Because of the hardness of the steel I have found that a ceramic stone is the best bet when sharpening 154CM blades. The blade is coated with a titanium nitride (I hope I spelled that right)finish that is extremely durable.I tried to wear mine off by rubbung the flat edge of the blade on a soda can and all that I accomplished was to get alluminum powder on the blade. When I rinsed off the blade the finish was intact.

Mine has been subjected to fresh and salt water and never rusted.Just rinse it off with fresh water and lube it...no problems with corrosion.

I have used this knife for everything from a steak knife (plastic fork and knife when deployed or in the field leave something to be desired) to opening boxes to cutting nylon webbing and everything else you can imagine using a knife for. It has never let me down.

Some will want a knife with more "belly" in the blade, but the blade shape on this is more than adequate for most cutting tasks. The serrated portion is handy for cutting rope or other tough materials.

As a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army I carried this knife daily for nearly 9 years. The blade remained tight when opened and the only "problem" I ever had was when I had to replace the pocket clip after 6 years of use.Gerber sent me a pocket clip for free.

I lost my original knife last year and had to buy a replacement. You can get this knife for a lower price at Military Clothing Sales Stores, but this price seems average for other retail establishments.

If you need an extremely durable tactical folder you can not go wrong by purchasing this knife.

Review of Gerber 30-000106 Mini Plier, Green

Much cheaper than a Leatherman, but much better quality than most cheapo mini tools. It's a fine choice for the price.

Only two comments:

1. I looked at it in a store, and the edges of the handle are just a little sharp-looking, especially where the textured areas meet the edge. It's not too bad, but it kind of looked a little cheap.Gerber's Clutch, or even better the Leatherman Squirt, have a very slight rounding to the edge.

2. It isn't much smaller than the Clutch. The product description says 20% less, but I don't see where they got that. It's less than 1/4" shorter, and not any slimmer.

Review of Gerber 22-41525 Mini-Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Serrated Knife

I carry this knive on my pocket for about a month now and cannot complain. I like the assisted opening - the spring will not try to open the blade when it is fully closed. It becomes engaged only when you open it quite a bit. Then if there is nothing in the way it opens and lock perfectly. There is no free play. The lock button doesn't look too durable but on knife of this size it can hardly be bigger. If you have it on the clip in the "back corner" your right pocket the blade will be facing backwards and cannot open accidentally even if the mechanism which prevents the spring from trying to open the blade when it is fully closed failed.

Review of Gerber 22-41614 Ripstop-I 5-3/4-Inch Length Fine Edge Knife, Stainless Steel

Fits perfectly in all of my jeans without bulk. While not the easiest to flick open one-handed, since the knife is brand new, I believe it will become easier in time. It is a solid build and maintains a nice edge with little maintenance. The skeleton frame is very easy to clean. Great product for an everyday pocket knife and is such a reasonable price you simply can't NOT buy it.

Review of Gerber 22-41074 Aluminum Presto 2.5 Fine Edge Knife

I was surprised when I got the knife that it didn't just swing open with a push of a the button. You still have to get a finger on the blade and swing it open part way, then the spring mechanism kicks in and snaps it open the rest of the way. I was hoping for a switchblade style pushbutton-opening knife. I am not a knife buff, so maybe that is plainly obvious to those in the know, but it wasn't to me.

The knife is nice for the price. The blade feels solidly attached to the body and the blade lock is positive and solid. The lock release lever is also located in a good spot and operates very cleverly. Under normal use you only have to push the lever forward. When the knife is closed you push the lock release lever forward to unlock it from the closed position. (It does not automatically lock when closed which I like, so you're not required to push the release unless you lock the blade closed). When the blade opens, the release lever automagically slides to the back most positon and locks the blade open. To close the blade you push the release lever forward again which unlocks the blade from the open position. It's a little confusing at first, but it's very ergonomic and easy to use.

As for things that could be better, I'd have to say the knife is a little wide. I have very large hands so I don't mind the width, but it's a little bulky for my pocket. I also think the little knob attached to the blade works OK but I think they could have come up with something a little less sharp or better. I also wish it was 100% automatic opening.

Review of Gerber 22-07162 Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Fine Edge Knife

The pros;
.open assist is fast and works well
.weight
.clip is in a good position at the end , tip up
.price
.easy carry for use asan EDC knife, very compact
cons;
.steel is way too soft and blade is too thick of a grind for this small of a knife, the serrated grind is also has too deep of a cut pattern for my liking
.constant dulling in use. No mention of steel type either, my guess 440c, or AUS6. My Fire/ Rescue Gerber has a better steel quality, but that was made in the USA, this is Taiwan.
. grip needs more roughness, slippery when wet, [you can do some changes yourself there]
. for my hand it is too small of a handle for medium to heavy EDC utility use
If the steel was better it would be an acceptable knife. If you buy it and like a really sharp knife that will stay that way in reasonable use do not buy this. Kershaw Leek,Blur, SOG Trident, have AUS8, much better steel. My Leatherman New Wave has CM154 and is excellent in edge hold and sharpness, that is a great steel choice also, hardly ever sharpen those blades.

Review of Gerber G01432 EVO, Titanium Coated, Serrated Edge Knife

So I've been checking out a bunch of these knives at the local sporting good stores so I can take sailing. I'm looking for a folding knife that I can open with one hand. Most of them were either ugly or the blade can be twisted out too easily (sometimes all it takes is a hard shake and the blade comes out). When I tried this knife I realized this is the knife for me. It felt sturdy, strong, easy to open with one hand but not easy to shake the blade out and a good price. My only 2 gripes are:there's no socket for me to hang this around my neck without having the rope touch the blade and it doesn't come with a sleeve. Can't have it all!

Review of Gerber 22-41604 Armor Serrated Edge Knife with Tanto Blade

I bought this knife four years ago, and haven't bought another knife since. This knife has been through a lot with me. Power outages, camping trips, etc. I love this knife so much! It has never lost a screw, and the handle is made of compressed fibers, which is soft unlike metal, so you can use it for hours without your hand hurting. The handle is very, very durable, as well as the blade. It is easy to open, and locks out firm when it is open. I have had it for 4 years, and it is still without wiggle! I recommend this knife to anybody!

Review of Gerber 05780 Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Folder Knife

This surprised me.I have had this knife about two weeks, and the thumb-stud popped out
I thought "OK I don't have to have it, I can use the hole to open the blade like a spyderco.

SURPRISE!!!the thumb-stud acts as a brace against the handle for support.
This is the ONLY support for the blade.Without the stud, the blade flops back and forth about an inch.
I managed to get the stud back in, but it continues to back out over time with use.
Seems like a poor design when a removable piece is the only blade support.
I would expect better from Gerber.

Review of Gerber 46036 E.A.B. Saw 2 Blades, Coarse+Fine with Sheath

I had one of these that was fantastic. My mom saw me pruning with it and was impressed. I promptly gave it to her as I figured I would just order another (which I did). The replacement is NOT AT ALL AS GOOD. The blade doesn't cut as well. The older one even well used cut like a dream compared to the replacement that was brand new. Old one was made in usa, replacement was made in prc. I have no clue whether that is the reason but I am now looking for an NOS old one everywhere I go.

Review of Gerber 22-41380 Diesel Multi-Plier, Mossy Oak Camo, with Sheath

If you use a professional quality construction-grade pocket tool, there is none better. Strange, I've found that theatre set builders favor Gerber, like this one, and construction workers favor the Leatherman tools. I've never been able to overwork a Gerber, and this one holds it's own in any situation. You can't go wrong with this Gerber. As with most, a bit over-priced, but well worth the price if you need a small belt-attached tool that just can't be beat.

And when the task at hand calls for more than a knife alone can handle, you'll appreciate the way the Diesel's 11 other tools give you a real leg up.
Job-specific tools make any task safer and easier to accomplish quickly. That's why this tool also includes a cross-point screwdriver, small, medium, and large flat-blade screwdrivers, a can opener, a bottle opener, a file, a saw, and scissors, as well as a dedicated wire cutter/stripper.
Unlike the bulky squared-off pliers on many multi-tools, the needle-nose pliers at the center of this tool are designed to fit in tight spots. Plus they can be opened quickly using one flick of the wrist, which makes working with them easy, intuitive, and one-handed.
Safe, User-Friendly Design for Peace of Mind
If you've ever had a folding knife close on your hand in the middle of making a tough cut, you'll have a special appreciation for Gerber's patented Saf.T.Plus system, which locks each component securely in place for worry-free use.
The refined lock and sliding buttons associated with this system are easy to use and they're intuitively placed on the tool's handle for easy access.
Despite its broad range of features, this tool weighs just 8.6 ounces. It measures 6.61 inches overall and 4.92 inches closed. The handle is well-balanced for comfortable use, and it showcases an elegant bead blast finish.

Review of Gerber 05848 AR 3.0 Fine Edge Knife, Black Blade

I had one of these knives for about 5 years before I lost it.I used to think Gerber made the best knives around but when I replaced my old Gerber knife with one of these I discovered that Gerber was no longer made in the U.S.A. They are now made in Taiwan and the quality has greatly suffered. My old knife would hold a edge very well. This knife will not (a problem I've had with another made in Taiwan Gerber knife I bought). The black teflon coating on the blade wore off rather quickly and the round end on the thumb stud fell out.On the plus side it did last me 5 years and I'm pretty hard on knives. If you want my recomedation skip this knife and buy a Kershaw.Kershaw is made in the U.S.A. and the one I carry now seems to hold an edge very well.

Good steel in blade- it holds an edge well yet sharpens easily.Opens really fast with one hand via flicking the finger guard (it's part of the blade and is atop the handle when the blade is closed- just flick it with your index finger to open the knife. The only things I don't like are the open back and the hollow ground blade.

Review of Gerber 45803 Guardian Back Up, Double Edge, Fine Edge Knife

If the knife had been as pictured, it would get 5 stars. The Guardian (and the Mark I & II knives) has always been a nice knife, with classic 'sword-like' blade lines and extremely sharp. However, look at the knife in the picture, and imagine that someone has taken a grinder to it and ground the blade to where it now looks like a triangle, with straight lines from the hilt to the point and a ridiculously large and obtuse bevel instead of the acute and classy bevel of the original. Yuck. The only excuse to ever do this to a knife would be if you chipped the blade and had to reshape the blade to hide the fact (and then sell it at a garage sale for $5). Nowhere near worth the asking price. If you are a secret agent and want to use this for taking out one of the opposition, it might not make a difference, but if you just like knives and want one just to have one, find an older model; you'll be much happier.
