Great little knife for the price. Low riding clip, means this knife rides low in the pocket. Open assist requires some practice, but once you get used to it opens very fast. Again remember the price, this isn't a Benchmade, but it does come with G10, is very light, and is of moderate quality, buy this over that gas station knife, but could use a larger lanyard hole.
Recommend that you use the safety when placing knife in pocket, open assist will open the blade as it shifts and moves around in the pocket. Gave myself a nice little cut because of that, but that was my own fault, not the knife's.

Review of Gerber 45898 Ridge Knife, Serrated Edge, Black

I have had my Gerber Ridge for a little over a month. I carry it in my pocket every day. As a female, the pockets on my jeans are often tiny so I did not think I would be able to comfortably carry a pocket knife. BUT, I never notice this one hanging out in my little front pocket until I need it and it is right there!
I haven't used it that much as to dull it in just a month so I haven't yet experienced how well it keeps it's edge over prolonged use. However, a friend of mine (who swears by his Gerber Ridge and recommended it to me) has had his for a while and he is very happy with the sharpness and durability of the blade and the entire knife in general.
In short, it is nice and sharp, incredibly lightweight, a great size, and I am pleased with my purchase.

I've owned two of these and have been very happy with them.I had to give my last one up at an unexpected security check point, a very sad day.The other had a broken tip from when I tried to pry something open(a poor decision on my part - the blade is not meant for leveraging).

The blade is easy to open and stays sharp.I really like the partially serrated edge for quick cutting.It's comfortable to keep in my front pocket and easy to open/close with one hand.It's a perfect pocket knife.

Review of Gerber 30-000176 Epic Knife, Serrated Edge

As with other Gerber knives, the Gerber 30-000176 Epic Knife, Serrated Edge arrives very sharp and has an easy edge to maintain.The weighting is handle biased and when held there is a thumb grip just in front of the handle which is well placed.This knife does not fall into the category of a large fixed blade, rather it is the size of a non-folding pocket knife (see photo comparison with the Gerber 22-01589 Big Rock Camp Knife).The sheath allows for mounting on either side (lefties or righties) and smartly secures the blade within.

One weak point is the "sheath" due to the difficulty of pushing the blade into it without cutting blade-side of the sheath.I would guess that after 6 months to a year of use the blade-side of the sheath will be weakened because the blade nicks it as it is pushed in.This is the reason it is 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall, it is a good introductory knife for those who wish to have a small fixed blade, however do not be fooled as to its size.The Big Rock Camp Knife is a good alternative for those who wish for a larger cutting area.

It's an excellent mid-sized folding knife. I'm an EMT and I like being prepared. This knife has held up great, it's lightweight, holds its sharpness well and it's comfortable. The only downside is that the paint on the handle comes off quickly revealing the silver finish underneath. I thought it was anodized like the blade but I guess not.

Review of Gerber 22-41551 PR 3.0 Knife, Serrated Edge

I bought the Gerber PR 3.0 while looking for a replacement for my lost Gerber EZ Out that I carried for about 15 years. While not quite what I was looking for (I also bought Gerber 22-07162 Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Fine Edge Knife), this one was so nice that it ended up in my cart. Amazon carries it for somewhat less than I paid for it in a big box store, but it was still worth it. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Looks great, the two-tone rubberized grip is very cool
+ Blade is VERY sharp and looks to be high quality steel
+ Comfortable grip provides safer handling of open knife
+ Sturdy pocket clip
+ Locking blade is very secure

Cons:
- Very hard to open one handed
- Sharp edge on bottom of thumb nub\stud catches on clothing, this is the only surprising thing about this knife

Overall this is a very good looking knife with good ergonomics and a great blade, it is only hampered by the two minor issues listed above.

Despite minor complaints, I like this knife.

Pros:
- Easy to open, even with one hand
- Blade cuts well, and stays sharp
- Blade locks open
- Light weight

Cons:
- Handle bolts occasionally loosen
- Belt clip is extremely stiff

Note: Use a Torx T-6 screwdriver to tighten the handle bolts.

Review of Gerber 22-48447 Paraframe II Knife, Stainless, Serrated Edge

I have been a fan of Gerber blades since my last pocket knife which I owned for many years without any complaints. The blade stayed razor sharp with a routine sharpening every few months and the frame never became loose from the blade even after "average" everyday use.

The blade would open into a locking position with the simple flick of the wrist or you could use your thumb/index finger to flick the blade open via the well-placed peg.

I recently lost my favorite knife I have ever owned which was the previous model of the blade you see before you. This newer model although it comes in a new stainless steel finish has one terrible modification. There is a new safety mechanism that holds the blade into place while in a closed position. I am a southpaw (left-handed individual) and it is near impossible to flick the blade open using my index finger, which was the reason I loved the original model I had. It allowed for quick access to the blade and it's utility. In a downward thrusting position the blade still opens with a simple flick of the wrist but I miss the ease of motion in the upright position that the last knife I had provided.

There is a chance that this new model will not affect the blade play for those of you who are right-handed but I just wanted to forewarn those few "lefty's" out there looking for a smooth-action knife.

All in all, Gerber still makes the best blades out there for the money, and I will continue to purchase their products.

Review of Gerber 05849 AR 3.0 Knife, Serrated Edge, Black

I've had this for a couple of years, and the blade locks open as solidly as when I bought it - no jiggle or play. Once you become familiar with it, it's very easy to open and close with one hand - great if you are holding, say, a box that needs to be opened in one hand and need to grab your knife with the other.

It may be a bit largish for casually pulling out in the presence of other people - a bit intimidating perhaps - but a very useful size, and the serration comes in handy for certain hard-to-cut materials. If I ever decide to get a smaller knife, I'll be sure it has the main features of this one: one-hand opening and solidly locking blade.

Review of Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge

I love this knife! I bought one for light use around the house and at work, and I would have to say this is the best money I have spent in a long time. The knife came very sharp and the blade does not dull out as quickly as many other knives tend to do, especially those around this price range. The handle is surprisingly sturdy, the screws came incredibly tight, the clip will never worry you, and the handle fits perfectly in your handle. I have never once feared the blade would come loose even during heavy use, and I never have to worry about the blade coming out in my pocket.

The only thing I don't like about this knife is that, especially with gloves on, the blade is very tough to get out with only one hand. I know most fingernail-release blades like this are the same way, but if the opening was slightly bigger, then the problem would be solved.

I looked at a lot of knives before deciding I wanted a spring assisted one and this knife was at the top of my list. After using it for several weeks I am very glad I got it. I comes very sharp and the handle is very comfortable. I was a little skeptic about getting the longer blade but after looking at it in the store I found it is very lite and you don't even notice it in ur pocket. The spring assist is very fast, even faster than some switch blades I looked at. The lock takes some time to get use to, about a day if u really get use to it but after u do it works better than other locking blades. Overall a great knife and the price through amazon was the cheapest even with shipping I found.

Review of Gerber 22-01969 Remix Clip Folder Knife with Serrated Edge

I purchased the Gerber Remix with the fine edge and with the serrated edge after I read about them in the January or February '09 issue of "Outdoor" magazine (Essentials section).

However, when I received the knives, I noticed that the sliding lock mechanism on the serrated blade knife did not always engage and lock the blade.

I'm not sure if the spring is just weak or if it is just a poor design.I will note that the locking mechanism on the fine edge Remix locks just fine.But, the knife is new.I'm wondering what will happen to the locking mechanism, as a whole, once the knife is exposed to saw dust, grease, - heck, pocket lint.All the parts that make up the locking mechanism are exposed and debris interfering with the safe operation of the knife is foreseeable.

I own many, many Gerber knives.From the LMF II to the tiny LST.Very disappointed in this knife.It is a shame, too.The fingerhole provides a grip that makes the knife beg to be used.

I bought this knife to do the Gerber Bonus Blade promotion.

I wanted a spring assisted open knife after my knockoff Kershaw Leek broke.This knife is just as fast, if not faster, even though it doesn't have a finger flipper.

The thumb stud is perfectly sized, even if you're wearing gloves.The safety switch is a bit hard to operate with gloves.The knife blade came very sharp, but the tip wasn't that sharp.When you flip the knife open, you can hear the spring.

I am a career firefighter/paramedic with seven years on the job.I have already used the knife several times on EMS calls.Four times I have used the oxygen wrench (we all know how the black tabs seem to get lost), and I have used the Zuess tool (belt cutter) and window punch on a couple of MVA's with extrication.Also used it on several trauma patients to expose them.Far superior to trauma shears.
