Review of Gerber 22-01945 Entrenching Tool with Pick, Serrated Blade

Received this item yesterday, and I am very impressed with the weight, feel, and construction of this tool. The serrated edge is sharp, the pick is down-right menacing, and the whole thing folds like a clam into a very small form factor. The weight is substantial and once the locking collar is secured it feels very solid.

Review of Gerber 30-000075 E-Tool with Serrated Blade

I bought this to replace an "army-type" foxhole shovel that I bought at an Army surplus store. You know, the kind with the metal blade and wooden handle. That one proved useless, with its wooden handle breaking a few years ago, on its first use.

I saw similar folding shovels at camping stores. Cheap ones with plastic handles. I knew better than to buy any of those.

Then I saw this shovel here on Amazon, and hesitated because of the price. But I bought it, and am glad I did. I keep it in my pickup truck. Today, a few hours ago, my truck got stuck on an old country road. There wasn't a lot of snow, but there were "ice ruts" from the previous snowfall. My truck got stuck in these ruts. This shovel was able to chop through the ice, no problem. The metal blade didn't break, and the metal handle didn't break. In fact, you can't even tell the shovel had been used, even though I was hacking away through hard ice for over half an hour. This shovel paid for itself today.
