This design 'blantantly cop[ies] Ed Hal[l]igan's design' because he sold it to Gerber, like most intelligent knife makers do to make a living.If you need a small blade to open boxes, bags and cut up to about 3/8" rope - this is the ticket.At sub-$20 it's practically disposable compared to when the K.I.S.S. design was released.It's certainly not designed for hard tasks, to be used all day long or for self defense - if you need those functions look elsewhere.The blade can open in your pocket and may while digging in pockets for other stuff - check out the Gerber "Trendy" model if that is a concern for you.Also the black will wear off quickly so if you want 'longterm pretty' get a full stainless knife.
