Gerber's Infinity task lights are not the brightest single LED flashlights because they don't have a reflector. With that out of the way consider this: It's virtaully waterproof, has a bulb life of 100,000 hours, can burn for over 40 hours (or more) and accepts cheap, readily available AA batteries. This model is even more heavy-duty than the Gerber 22-80010 Infinity Ultra LED Task Light, Green. The main improvements are that the recessed LED is less likely to break, the circuit board is waterproof and double gaskets are used.I ALWAYS have an Infinity Task Light in my possession.Personally, I use Energizer Ultimate L91BP-4 Lithium AA Battery 4 Pack batteries because they last way longer than alkaline batteries.I also put some silicone grease on the gaskets.
Yes, the anodized coating wears away in time -- especially under the clip (which I don't use). This is a minor point and has happened to the other flashlight I ALWAYS carry in my bag: the Surefire E1E-BK Executive Elite Flashlight - Black.Between these two I have a really bright halogen light and a long lasting LED light with a combined weight of only a few ounces.I do carry a spare lithium AA and a CR123 battery just in case.If you've ever been in NYC in a blackout you'd understand my reasoning.
